This high profile conservative just endorsed Ted Cruz, shot down Donald Trump and it's a HUGE deal

Rebel Staff

Ted Cruz just earned one of his biggest endorsements to date and it has everyone on the right talking.

85-year-old Thomas Sowell, a is household name to conservatives. With over 30 books published, you've probably seen his work cited somewhere in your life. To Canadians, readers of the Sun papers would often find his material republished there.

In his latest column titled Tragedy and Choices, Sowell writes the following:

“If, by some miracle, Trump became president, what kind of president would he be? Do we need another self-centered know-it-all in the White House to replace the one we have now?

If the Republicans are to avoid having Donald Trump lead them -- and the country -- to disaster, they are going to have to have the majority of non-Trump supporters get behind some given candidate...we can only make our choices among those actually available, and Senator Cruz is the one who comes to mind when depth and steadfastness come to mind.

As someone who once clerked for a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, he will know how important choosing Justice Scalia's replacement will be. And he has the intellect to understand much more.”

This is a huge deal considering the utmost respect many on the right have for Sowell. When it comes to celebrities, Sowell may not be Kim Kardashian, but when he speaks, people listen.

trump runs a very large corporation and ted Cruz is bought and paid for and not American born. To me trump is the only solution. If you want all war all the time for life vote Clinton or Cruz. NWO is possible all it takes is ignorance like it cant happen here.

Yes, the anger of the voter, agreed.
His ability to say what is on everyone’s mind, and cut through the bull.
The fact that he is a realist may be the ‘governor’ I am looking for and can hold onto.

Peter you are right , I guess they are all self -centred.

Bravo Zulu, I get that Trumps appeal is his anger, and its hard for me to find anything he says that I don’t actually agree with. He can’t be bought, this is true, but I wonder, what he is capable of for the sake of business. Its hard to trust him. But then again its hard to trust any politician fully. In the fix the globe is in right now, he may be the best bet.
If I had a vote, I’d be voting for whoever looks like they can get into the White House. I admit it is looking more like that guy could be Trump, and that could turn out to be the best thing, but the race isn’t over yet.

The appeal is not TRUMP’s anger – it is the anger of the voter.

He has parlayed a one million dollar loan into billions – been broke a couple of times and learned from those lessons.

He is for the first time a politician – and a realist – which I believe to be more important.

Time will tell.

Well, even a bunch of Canadians posting here do not get it.

The reason Trump is doing so well is because of the anger.

Americans are literally pissed of.

Almost all of you below me on this posting list have fallen into a very typical Canadian smug attitude trap and you do not get it.

What is happening in the US of A is the working stiff is getting pounded – on all sides – by lefties, feminazis, elitists, establishment and media.

Trump has coma along and started saying things that the working stiff has been saying at his kitchen table for the past few years.

He is pointing out things that no one will speak of in the media.

As an example – people are pissed at islam, illegal immigration, unemployment, black lives matter, government agencies running roughshod over their own people and much more.

That anger is real and palpable.

For the moment the tax payer is still in the majority as about 47% of US citizens are on some sort of social assistance.

Trump is a rich man and cannot be bought. He has pointed out that most politicians enter with a bit of money and leave politics filthy rich.

He admits he bought a US Democrat vote to get what he wanted some years ago.

Money talks and bull shit walks was what he said in the interview – it was bleeped but you could read his lips.

Trump has a human heart and has paid off little peoples bills in return for good deeds they have done him.

Trump is not afraid to say what the working stiff has said and wants to say.

When I read the comments here on this article here – I think – the Canadians who have responded here are actually similar in many ways as the Canadians who voted for the liberals.

Smug.

Very smug.

In fact I am surprised that they would even come to this site – perhaps some of them should go to cbc.

I fully agree that Trump might not be electable.

And I foully agree he might NOT get elected.

But the number of people supporting him in the US of A is enormous.

And for any smug Canadian to take shots at him for his very different approach simply shows me that those same smug Canadians are not ready to change their own lives and their own government.

They are simply unable to imagine anything different than they already have and they are only capable of complaining like a yapping Chihuahua.

most people dont care what he says as they are sick of the establishment of both republican or democrat i think it might actually hurt cruz

If you think Obummer treats Canada like crap, Trump will screw us right over. Be careful what you wish for.

Yeah, let’s vote in the guy who blatantly manipulated to get votes from Carson supporters…. Trump may exaggerate(as he has stated in his art of the deal, an excellent motivation tool) but he at least believes what he says.

Also why would these Conservatives supporting Trump and other radicals listen to Thomas Sowell? People are obviously VERY pissed off at the establishment, and he hasn’t addressed their concerns in the slightest.

P.T. Barnum would be proud of Trump.

I still think Dr. Ben Carson would be the best choice for President.

William – Trump has a bridge he wants to sell you…

We need a self centered know-it- all Republican in the White House, to replace the self centered know-it- all Muslim that we have now.

Trump seems to be beyond the media. The media is only playing into his hands by reporting on him, even if it is negative, it still gets him out front and “in your face.”

I cannot say for sure if Trump would make a good president or not, but two things are for sure.
1) The US cannot afford another Obama type. The US cannot afford another Democrat.
2) The US needs a good shake-up, one that Trump seems to be able to provide. The same-old same-old type of politician is not what the US needs at the moment.

That’s my two cents worth.

Roger Foster commented 25 mins ago
If Trump gets the nomination, the media will destroy him with his comments about women, Eminent domain, bankruptcies, and his thousands of ignorant comments.

“I’ll build a wall, and Mexico will pay for it” – HOW? By tariffs? If so, wouldn’t this go against his comments how he “loves free trade”?

Anyone who supports Trump is just naive. A vote for him is a vote for the Democrats.

Roger Foster. What are the media waiting for? Megyn Kelly already tried to destroy Trump and look what happened. What about eminent domain? Trump did not force an old lady to give up her home. In fact Trump offered her much more money than what the property was worth. She refused and Trump left.
So what if Trump went bankrupt several times? What is your point? He managed to get out of bankruptcy so good on him. Regarding ignorant comments, are you so naïve to think these other candidates are all angels and don’t swear or insult other people? Would you prefer somebody like Hillary who will literally have you killed but that’s OK because she is politically correct and doesn’t offend anyone publicly?
Trump has stated that Mexico will pay for the wall. He will threaten them with trade sanctions, limited immigration or whatever reasons at his disposal. Mexico enjoys a huge trade imbalance and this is another area where Trump will go on the offensive to change.

Ted Cruz reminds me too much of our former Ontario premier, Dalton McGuinty! If Republicans continue to squabble amongst themselves, the Democrats will run away with the election.

“Do we need another self-centered know-it-all in the White House to replace the one we have now?”

They are all self-centered know-it-alls to one extent or another. After all, they are running for president because they think they know best, correct?

to call the POtuS a “self centred know-it-all” understates his megalomania..

Congress needs to act now to reduce the number of seats on the SC to block another Obama nominee, or the unthinkable, Clinton or Sanders should ever happen to win. It would stop them as well. They can always change the number after the election if they want. Sowell is right, Cruz is the best man for the job.

With due respect to Rebel Staff, it’s not a game-changer, 99% of Republicans have no idea who Thomas Sowell is. Now I do, and while I respect his opinion on economics and public policy, I think he’s off on his politics here. First of all, I find Ted Cruz to be one of the most self-centered politicians I’ve ever seen. Trump is the exact opposite – he doesn’t need any of this! Secondly, with regards to the Supreme Court, Trump is the one candidate who has actually put out names, and by all accounts those names are as good as they come for conservative jurisprudence.

trump is running his election like a national election, he is abiding by the GOP rules, but he is setting himself up very well to appeal to the centre and may well swing many Dem his way. He is, at this time, the best chance for a Republican. His media people, are taking all the lessons of Obama’s run and using it to garner deeper strengths. It has been quite impressive.
commented 2016-02-17 11:56:29 -0500
Please! Cruz is a cheater! Trump will run away with SC just like he did in NH. Who cares what Sowell thinks – sounds like he’s out of touch.

Conservatives don’t win elections. Independents do.

So what if Cruz wins the majority of Conservatives. It’s who wins the majority of Independents.

C’mon Ezra, report the Conservative AND Independent perspective.

Latest poll for South Carolina:

Trump 38%
Cruz 22%
Rubio 14%

This is supposedly Bush country and Jeb is desperate by spending millions and getting personal appearance by George W and Lindsay Graham. Governor Haley campaigning against Trump.
Trump has taken evangelical vote from Cruz. Jeb could be finished.
