Today in History: Amphibious cars cross English Channel (1965)

John RobsonResident Historian

On September 17, 1965, in case you’ve forgotten, four Britons arrived triumphantly at the Frankfurt Motor Show having crossed the English channel in two of the only amphibious cars ever mass-produced.

A tribute less to the garish poor judgement of the 1960s than the enduring human capacity to invent solutions to which no problem can ever be found.

Thanks John. As a “car” guy I loved the segment. Every now and again I see one of these amphicars at a car show.

I’m very interested in history so I want to thank you, Prof. Robson, for doing these. Keep ’em coming!
