Today in History: Small-arms fire led to victory in Battle of Cerignola (1503)

On April 28 of 1503 the otherwise entirely obscure battle of Cerignola was the first decisive victory won through the use of small-calibre gunpowder weapons. 

It was a long journey from there to the Somme and the spectacular engagements of the Second World War. But that’s how technology always starts… very small.
