Liberal decision to move jobs to vote-rich Edmonton will “kill” town of Vegreville

Sheila Gunn ReidRebel Commentator

A new report commissioned by the Town of Vegreville confirms their worst fears: If Justin Trudeau kills 300 well paying jobs there, the town will be destroyed.

Vegreville is in East Central Alberta, and besides being home to the world's largest easter egg, the town has a federal immigration processing centre that employs nearly 300 people.

It’s a major employer in a town of only 5,000 but in the fall, the Liberals decided they were going to close the centre and move it to Edmonton, over an hour away.

The Liberals haven't provided any analysis of their decision, so the town did their own.

Watch my video to see the results of the town’s study. The closure of the centre will be devastating.

Two-hundred and twenty thousand Alberta jobs have vaporized from the Alberta economy since the start of the economic downturn.

The only place that's not swimming in unemployment and economic disaster is the government hub of Edmonton.

And what’s Justin Trudeau’s solution to this crisis?

Kill a small town and give their jobs to liberal progressive voters in Edmonton.

@chris :L I could not agree less. There is no saving at all locating them all in Ottawa, in fact the landlords get greedy and the wage demands go up. There are even regional differences in wages paid.

I have family near Vegrerville. Soon we will be a have not province. Trudeau will rejoice until the transfer payments stop coming.

Liberals serve their voters. Justin has said so by accident but he did say it. Next stop PQ.

Government jobs should be centralized to reduce cost to the taxpayer.

I’ll bet that the new location will be in Edmonton Mill Woods riding—-home of Amarjeet Sohi.

David,

Sorry, I forgot to respond to your traffic question.

Rig and tanker traffic is minimal compared to 2015. Most of the companies have finished moving out. Interestingly, the past couple of months have seen a high increase in forestry traffic, both chip and logging trucks. This I find interesting due to the decrease in quota along with an increase in stumpage fees, not to mention the carbon tax. I wonder if the forestry companies are making good on their leases while it is still worthwhile before pulling their business out of the province, I don’t think I have ever seen as busy a winter.

Drew and David,

If you want great sausage to cook yourselves, see if Johnny’s Sausage of Grimshaw will ship to you. Great Ukrainian recipes and Central European recipes for sure, he learned his trade in East Central Alberta. However he has a great recipe for British style sausage…best bangers and mash ever. Then…he has maple breakfast sausage for Sunday brunch which goes great with his maple bacon when you have your eggs.

Hungry yet :)

This topic came up at question period today, twice. Nothing resembling an answer to the questions, just liberal bafflegab…..no answers, just talk.

MONGREL…..Will this be one of the first spring break ups that won’t interfere much with anything, because not much is going on. What’s the traffic situation in your neck of the woods? I like DREW’S post as well , and LONG LIVE UKRAINIAN FOOD!!!

Obviously Vegreville needs to be punished. They did not vote for the gigalo, Baby Doc.

Drew, damn good post. I bet Baby Doc would distain sausage and perogies, with sour lettuce leaf. Me, on the other hand, enjoy it with bannock, probably like you. But we are just good ol’ red neck mongrels.

@ Art Vandelay

No, I think Justine will go out of his way to pamper his favorite province. It is Alberta he loves to anger, just like Quebec loves to.
commented 2017-02-15 18:27:49 -0500
I call this Ukrainophobia. Justin is a Ukrainophobe. Oh sorry i forgot under the rules of progressivism you can only be called a type of phobic when you make phony relations to bigotry of certain groups and religions and colors of people.

Have patience. Soon Trudeau will follow daddies lead and piss off Quebec. Then we have another referendum but this time the WEST gets to vote on leaving too.

It has always been a “gentleman’s agreement” in the federal government to leave pork barrel communities alone. Other than economic irrigation you cannot …for instance…justify locating the Ontario Regional office of Veteran’s Affairs in Kirkland Lake or the headquarters in Charlottetown for that matter. It could turn into a tit for tat round of revenge that is very disruptive for service delivery.

Some employees will opt to commute, some will relocate, but there is bound to be a bunch of new green employees who need to be trained from scratch.

They did the same to Calgary when they promised to close Currie Barracks and moved base to Edmonton. Got them lots of votes in Edmonton that time around.
