When it comes to Harper's travel ban, Trudeau supports terrorists' rights instead

Brian LilleyRebel Co-Founder

Prime Minister Harper is promising a travel ban to jihadi hot-spots if re-elected.

I agree there could be civil liberties violations but we will have to see the details. Not Justin Trudeau, he jumped to the defence of anyone wanting to travel to jihadi hot-spots which makes me ask why he won't stand up so quickly for the rights of ordinary, law abiding Canadians.

Very Well said Brian Lilley. I wish CSIS has even greater powers if it could keep me safer. Trudeau is being himself, an idiot.

“The point is not that they might still find a way to go but they will be arrested if trying to re-enter Canada. "

Yes, EDWARD JOBIN, but the provisions of Section 7 of the Criminal Code and the Terrorism legislation already permit the arrest/charging of persons who have engaged in a whole host of criminal activities while outside out of Canada – from sexual offences, kidnapping, murder, terrorism, etc. So (unless someone can point out some grave deficiency in existing legislation that I am missing) I can’t see the need for the proposed legislation.

And don’t get me wrong – I’m with Harper on the threat that terrorism poses to Canada and the free world. Turdo la doo and Commie Tom continue to pretend it isn’t there.

The problem has always been how to best restrict the person or persons from joining the terrorists. Taking away their passport has been suggested and was met with so much disdain. Another suggestion was to strip them of their citizenship with the same results and controversy.
I also agree with those that say how does the government monitor everyone that wants to go over and fight with the terrorists, unless our clandestine service and the RCMP target the ones they are suspicious of and restrict them. But what about the sneaky ones or the newly converted that have not yet shown up on the radar?
I agree with the statement of letting them go and not letting them return, however we all know that that will be met with the bleeding heart mentality of the left and would never fly. Can anyone see angry Tom or the hair head agreeing to any of this? I sure can’t. Can you not hear the shouting in the house if the government restricted immigration from those hot beds, Mr. Harper will be called a bigot, islamaphobic (hope I spelt it right spell check does not work) etc. The government can pass laws to take care of the situation but we also know that the SCOC will then get in the act and squash anything like that citing charter violations and so on or make up their own interpretation to suit.
So I believe that what Mr. Harper is suggesting should be tried and then judgements and or changes made after the plan has been implemented for some time.

What is the definition of “traitor”? After all, since when is it not against the law to be a traitor? Anyone who would betray Canada and join the terrorists is a traitor plain and simple. Let the Liberals scream about “rights” if the traitors are not allowed back into Canada, they will only reveal themselves as being terrorist sympathizers. Why should we shy away from being confronted or attempted intimidation by progressives? We need to publicize how dangerous they are because of their destructive reasoning and lack of common sense.

It seems the young whippersnapper, Justie, feels that he can “pick and choose” which Human Rights that he wishes to pretend to protect! What about this one: “7. Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of the person and the right not to be deprived thereof except in accordance with the principles of fundamental justice.” This one is MY RIGHT that the jihad terrorists wish to infringe! Hey, Justie, are you going to go to bat for me on this one???

@james Macmaster The point is not that they might still find a way to go but they will be arrested if trying to re-enter Canada. I understand where Trudeau is coming from. In my opinion he likes to present himself as the champion of human rights, especially to groups who might be feeling a bit centered out but have a decent sized electorate from whom he wishes to trade our security for their votes. When he speaks he conveniently leaves out the part in which Harper said if they are travelling there with no good reason. If you can provide good reason for example, humanitarian etc. you may be exempt.

I can’t for the life of me figure out any usefulness for this proposed legislation. It won’t stop wannabe muzzie-wugs from traveling to ISIS areas, and the citizens who will be exempt from the ban (journalists, etc.) are some of the prime targets for capture.
commented 2015-08-11 00:13:18 -0400
I think we should let the wannabe terrorists go. I’d rather have the forces of democracy face them in syria/iraq as enemy combatants who can be dealt with swiftly, than have them commit terror on Canadian soil and be fawned over by the CBC a la Omar Khadr (who was obviously fighting in Afghanistan, but is an exception in his treatment ie. detention in gitmo)
commented 2015-08-10 23:29:16 -0400
Let them go, but only on a one way ticket.
commented 2015-08-10 23:13:31 -0400
In case anyone thinks a passport can’t be forged and/or falsified, I really think ISIS has that one covered …

Not sure any legislation will stop terrorist activity in Canada. Suspect it requires intelligence, subterfuge and secrecy.

Most of all, I suspect disabling the terrorist threat will involve getting control of financial resources. And that that might not be strictly legal under international law, let alone civil Canadian law. But isn’t that how most wars are won?
commented 2015-08-10 23:09:29 -0400
Fraser – I haven’t forgotten our friendly wager but am taking a little more time to study the war maps.

I wonder if Conservative Party polls show security is top of the list for Canadians – at least for Conservative voters – as a campaign issue. If so, it bodes well for a Conservative win. Although the cynic in me thinks that if polls show a lag in popularity as the October election day draws nigh, a little terrorist activity in the news could change that … Sigh.

Yes, this new proposed legislation will trigger controversy and protests that it will violate civil rights. And Brian is right that it may and, I might add, the Supreme Court of Canada may find that it does. However, not until after the election …

Sigh. Is this what we’ve come to? A game of pretence? If so, then bring it on, I say! Makes it more interesting.

In any event, someone on Twitter suggested better legislation might be to restrict all travel FROM terrorist countries TO Canada, an idea I could get behind 100%. But as that isn’t on the table at this time, I guess we have to opine on the proposal to restrict travel TO terrorist-controlled countries FROM Canada.

Brian is right. The devil is in the detail. My first reaction is to ask what would stop any Canadian from flying into, let’s say, Britain and then taking a train to Turkey and a bus to Syria? Are we to track all travellers to Britain? How does it work? How do we know where travellers go once they leave Canada?

Unless … has CSIS so infiltrated our lives that we have all, unbeknownst to us, been fitted with GPS????

Hmmmm …. the thought plickens.

Yeah Trudeau….you’re so for the Charter of Rights, so does that mean if you want to commit jihad in Canada you have that right. I say if you want to travel to those hot spots without a good legitimate reason why, then go right ahead but remember that your flight ticket is one way only & don’t even try to come back here to carry out your dirty deed. How come Justin, we never heard anything coming from your mouth about Canadian rights regarding the incidents mentioned by Brian in his piece. So quick to defend the rights of those who wish to kill us. Hooray for our PM for bringing that up……that will certainly be fodder for the left.

There is no denying that there is an IQ discrepancy between father and son.
Canadians are open and accepting, and we are being indoctrinated into being comfortable with bending over, under the guise of standing up for the rights and freedoms of the individual. It is so convoluted it makes my brain hurt.
Wrong, its just all wrong. We can’t defend our country and our freedoms if we are bereft of all tools to defend ourselves and the sovereignty of our country. Drastic times call for drastic measures. Pierre at least understood that when he allowed for temporary marshal law to be implemented in Quebec. No one was afraid, it wouldn’t be lifted.
I do wonder about the effectiveness of such a travel ban though.
