Turkey’s failed military coup will empower Erdogan further on path to tyranny

Candice MalcolmRebel Contributor

There was an attempted coup d’etat in Turkey on Friday.

Turkey is our NATO ally, but the country has been involved in many nefarious and unscrupulous activities, including the bombing of Kurds in Kurdistan and the shooting down of Russian jets near its airspace. And, it's believed, buying oil from ISIS, giving a lifeline and revenue source to the army of terror in Iraq and Syria.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan governs with a heavy fist. His Islamist party was democratically elected, largely because he routinely arrests journalists critical of him, shuts down entire media outlets and intimidates or arrests his political opponents.

Erdogan is sliding down the path to tyranny. He governs like an Islamist, instituting reforms that curb civil liberties and destroy economic freedoms.

He’s turning Turkey into a Sunni version of Iran.

Watch as I review the history that took Turkey from a beacon of hope and prosperity in the Middle East to what on Friday evening looked like just another war-torn hell hole.

The military is the custodian of secularism in Turkey doing its job according to the constitution, but the poorly organized and badly executed coup failed to protect Turkey this time. It failed to seize control to stop Turkey from digressing further towards being another backwards Muslim state ruled by theocratic Islamist thugs.

If anything, the failed coup merely empowered Erdogan to go further down that path.

We saw a glimmer of hope for pluralism and secularism in Turkey but now the military has given a despotic strongman an excuse to arrest and execute his enemies and likely even change Turkey’s constitution to remove any notion of secularism.

I predict he will and will boost his own power to enable his government to impose strict sharia in Turkey.

We’re witnessing the end of constitutional secularism in Turkey and now we have to decide whether we want an Islamist autocracy in NATO as our supposed partner and ally.

Strong rumour that this coup was a false flag. Come on people, who in their right mind is going to risk their own life for a coup they know is not going to work and failed within 48 hours. Erdogan can now squash any truth and proceed with his goal of an Islamic state. NATO and the US should be very worried about this as Turkey will be waiting and not caring about getting the boot. Trudeau is too stupid to even contemplate the repercussions as he is a lover boy of Islamic regimes and is getting all warm and moist over these developments. Trump should be very concerned.

Of course Jack. Muslim loving Obama and dictator loving Trudeau already have their lips puckered.

True Philip, but Obama and Trudeau will be surely kissing his ass in months to come.

No question Erdogan is an enemy of Canada, an enemy of Canadian values, an enemy of a free world.

Agree with you all. False flag. All the cowards, which is all of them , leading the west will resist that narrative hell and high water.

Well, with the election of Erdgogan, we suspected Turkey was now lost to extreme Islam. The attempts then from Turkey to invade Israel with boat people confirmed that even more. The peoples’ rejection of sanity in rallying to Erdgogan shows that Islamism is the way they are headed.

Erdogan is a foe of freedom and democracy. He is an Islamist tyrant. He is not a friend of Western civilization. He is an enemy.

Fake coup so Erdogan could slaughter his enemies.

Facts are emerging that Erdogan staged the coup as a false flag op to solidify his autocratic tyranny. I believe he has a lucrative money/oil/commodity laundering business arrangement with the radical Iranian regime and needs to turn off international and internal scrutiny of this dealings.

There is no other way to explain why his plain was shadowed by a “rebel” aircraft for some time but not shot down.
