Turkish mayor sued after using public money to build giant robot statue

Rebel Staff

You think your municipal leaders waste money? Get a load of this.

The mayor of the Turkish capital Ankara spent taxpayers money to build a giant robot statue.

The statue resembles a Transformer and is being used to promote a theme park.

A total of 20 robots will be at the park.

According to The Independent, Turkey's Chamber of Architects and Engineers (TMMOB) filed a criminal complaint against Mayor Melih Gökçek for using public money to build the robot.

TMMOB representatives called the statue a 'monstrosity'.

Gökçek, meanwhile says, “respect the robot.”

that’s what happens when you don’t have public input.

Arlene that is an ugly one for sure, wonder what that cost, or if there was any public input. There never seems to be any.

Would rather have that than the Big Blue Hula Hoop we have in Calgary

It’s not one of the Transformers. Is it wrong that I actually recognize the model of the robot and which Japanese anime it’s from? Seriously, why the Zaku I, the weakest in the Mobile Suit Gundam series from 1979? The Zaku II from the same series is stronger and more badass looking. And why one of the robots of the villain faction, Zeon? Late in the series they pretty much become space Nazis and adopt the salute of “Seig Zeon!” … Why?

But some agreement with Warren. It at least looks better than say Edmonton’s steel balls off the side of the Whitemud, but still a waste.

You’ve never been to Canmore Alberta. Toilet paper on sticks and the Head, probably others now. I could be off on the figures but something like 30 and 50,000, taxpayers dollars. Home owners across the river from toilet paper on sticks were really vocal about it. You live in Canmore for a view of the mts. not that sort of litter.

Looks better than steel balls or any of the other ‘modern art’ our politicians erect in our Liberal bastions of freedom. I for one would rather see robot statues than the crap our politicians call modern art.
