Twitter's new "Trust and Safety Council" is a disaster for free speech -- so what's REALLY behind it?

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

In the past few months, we’ve seen some disconcerting clues that Twitter was bringing in censorship.

As we've told you before, Milo Yiannopoulos, a columnist with Breitbart London, was disciplined by Twitter for having anti-feminist views — even though he himself is a socially liberal gay man. And that's just one example of someone on the "right" who's been targeted by the social justice warriors who work at Twitter.

Twitter's stock price has been tanking. Unlike their rival Facebook, they're not growing followers, either.

So yesterday, CEO Jack Dorsey made his big reveal for fixing this:

He's appointed a board of censors called a "Trust and Safety Council."

Doesn't that sound Orwellian?

WATCH and I'll tell you about some of its members -- a bunch of anti-"hate speech" groups.

If you like using Twitter, and you're a conservative or just a grown up who believes in freedom, then this new council is a leftwing triumph, but a free speech disaster.

And it’s going to be a corporate disaster, too.

Or is it?

Maybe Jack Dorsey is preparing Twitter for entry into the Chinese market, where it is currently banned by the government. Jack could lose every single American and Canadian customer like me, but if he gets the approval of the Chinese government, he could get ten new followers for every one he lost...

THEN: Our own Brian Lilley joins me to talk about Twitter's foray into censorship. Will he and I be banned just for talking about this?

He says he has a one-word explanation for what's driving Twitter's new endeavor...

NEXT: Tiffany Gabbay of Truth Revolt says the Hilary Clinton campaign could lose -- and deserves to. She also calls on conservatives to support the eventual Republican candidate, whomever they may be.

FINALLY: Your letters to me, positive and negative! I hear from a police officer who takes exception to our #CrotchesKill photo contest.

@43 minutes Ezra.. WRONG WRONG WRONG!!! I can’t count the number of times I’ve see cops breaking the law when NO EMERGENCY exists. If they have their lights flashing or siren going YES they should be allowed to break speed limits etc. BUT I have on MANY occasions seen cops cutting off traffic (myself included) and speeding WAY over the limit when their lights or siren are NOT going. Sorry, but cops are NOT ABOVE THE LAW!!!

Now, for example, if I needed to rush my wife to the hospital, do I get to break the law? I don’t have a siren. I DO have “hazard lights”. If I use them during an emergency do I get to avoid speeding tickets? I am ALL FOR a cop verifying my emergency if I speed with my hazard lights on, and if I abuse that I should be ticketed… but we CANNOT WAIT for ambulances or cops when we live in rural areas and we may have an emergency. SOMETIMES WE MUST BREAK THE LAW, but NOT COPS as they are above the law and have the priviledge of breaking the law as they see fit.
I could tell you stories based on my own experience.

Why should cops not be accountable when there is NO emergency and they break the law?

RAWNG!! And we citizens have NO RECOURSE on bad cops.

No, cops breaking traffic laws outside of emergencies is still hypocrisy (and apparently illegal), so they should still be called out on it (and fined for it).

Sanders Wins but really he loses: Everyone knows that Sen. Sanders handily defeated Ms. Clinton in New Hampshire but to show just how truly un-democratic the Democrats are, in the all-important delegate count, Ms. Clinton actually “won” more delegates to the national convention in New Hampshire than did Sen. Sanders. Of the 24 delegates that New Hampshire shall send to the convention this summer, Ms. Clinton has “won” 13 of them and Sen. Sanders has won but 9 with 2 delegates remaining yet to be named and their pledges accounted for.
The reason for the difference between Sen. Sanders’ sweeping defeat of Ms. Clinton is that like so many other states many, if not most, of the delegates names are “super delegates” appointed by members of the state party leaders. Of the 2,382 total delegates required to win the Democratic nomination, 712 are super-delegates. These “super delegates” are now bound by the party’s primaries and can cast their ballots for whom they wish. At this point, it appears that Ms. Clinton already has at least 440 of those 712 solidly in her camp. How undemocratic is that?

It seems that twitters post in haste and then are forced to apologize due to the twitter bullies piling on. I don’t use it because I for one detest being ganged up on by those nannies who think they are always right about everything. I’d rather keep my thoughts to myself and make them uncomfortable, now knowing what I think!

Thanks for the laughs while I’m having my morning coffee! :-)

The beginning of the end for Social Media. Main Stream Media is well under the auspices of lefty politicos and Islamic aspirations. Disrupt the ability to communicate is a foundation of any repressive regime!

Any time a rich and powerful organization such as twitter – or as I call it – flitter – comes up with a new “rules and control” portion – hieen under a fancy and socially acceptable name – you can be assured it is NOT – I repeat NOT for the overall good of the system.

It is for control.

Anyone using that system is being controlled.

Step out of line of the “approval and control” group and you will be tossed.

Showing how much like sheep and cattle the average person is.

We need a good EMP over many parts of the world to get people back on track.

So Ezra had to back peddle on paying out bounties for pictures of cops engaged in distracted driving? And here I thought the rebel was fearless.

And meanwhile back at Torstar, everyone is getting fired. Was one of those terminations you??? You sound lonely.

OK, a lefty version of twitter… I suggest that it be nameg ‘litter’

Sam. Are you a Lefty?
No, Ezra didn’t “have to” back out, he “chose to”, (and somewhat reluctantly). Carrying one’s position to the point of zero compromise, is what extremists do. There’s a time and place to compromise, (and times not to). He gauged the situation and made his decision. Ezra’s is smart, not an extremist!

As if to make my point for me. Here’s a Star article today with Butts about using Twitter, who says . . . . “It’s just a modern comms vehicle. It’s consistent with our open approach to government. I don’t engage with angry partisans, and have muted most of them,” Butts told the Star in an email Wednesday.

Yeah, real “open” butts!! Maybe those “angry partisans” are angry for good reason. Only, you / we will never know!

i got banned from Twitter for asking mayor Nenshi questions during the municipal election. Twitter has been censoring for a long time.

The Twitter issue is very disconcerting, in many ways. Many pundits on both sides of the political isle have referred to Twitter as having a huge impact on democracy. If they “succeed” in driving out all dissenting voices, all Conservative voices, historians may well see it as a turning point towards civil war. I don’t want to sound dramatic, but think about it. Our society is severely divided already. This would make it way worse! Con’s would have no voice, frustration and anger will mount. It’s a potential recipe for disaster!! If you search it, there’s tons of articles on the issue. Here’s but one . . . http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/sep/14/twitter-flotation-facebook-politics-social-network

Hi Ezra. You were going to tell us once about your plans to circumvent youtube? I hope you’re working on something. Obviously, it’s not lost on you and Brian, as he states that anyone relying on them is in a bad place!

Great show, as always. Cheers!
(now I have to go watch The Agenda, and write comments to set the Lefty’s on fire!! LOL!!)

Hi Ezra, you did a fine show today Feb.10th/16. Regarding feminism feminists often spew out hate against males and play the forever victim card also many feminists are male hating lesbians that’s why many feminists are exclusively pro women and antimale !.

But Ezra, think of the employment opportunities these censor boards represent!

Incidentally, you’ve probably seen those CBC articles that are simply long lists of people’s tweets. Boring.

Dear Diary;
We’re running low on facial tissues here, in what Gerald calls his Puppet Master’s Office.
Poor Gerald, it would seem that the entire Twitter-sphere is on his case.
Everyone’s attacking us just because I haven’t offered a rationale for pulling the jets. I should have said something like “just watch me” because when Daddy used that line it just took everyone’s breath away and they were so impressed (how’s that, Peter Babich?). They’re even saying that my explanations were muddled and incoherent, and this is even after I put on my patented slow, drawn-out, heavy breathing voice that I use whenever I want to emphasise something that might turn out to be important. I’ll be okay; I think I’ve just got something in my eye.
So just to show everyone that I’m not the closed-minded, fascist dictator that so many Canadians are discovering that I am, I’m going to take Gerald’s advice and get Dan Gardener’s advice about how I should go about taking B.O.’s advice so that it will appear that I’m heeding Harjit’s advice when I advise My House to put hundreds of our troops into harms way and not provide air support for them.
Of course, since my subjects have given me a huge overwhelming majority to do anything I please I could just go ahead anyway but, although I’d have a guaranteed successful vote in My House, it will give my zombies the impression that I’m a loving, caring, democratic, benevolent dicta . . oops, I mean, leader, just like Daddy and Uncle Jean.
Finally, my bottom lip’s stopped quivering, I’m okay now.
