VIDEO: Can we rely on wind and solar energy?

Rebel Staff

Is "green" energy, particularly wind and solar energy, the solution to our climate and energy problems?

Or should we be relying on things like natural gas, nuclear energy, and even coal for our energy needs and environmental obligations?

Alex Epstein of the Center for Industrial Progress explains in this new Prager U. video.

You know…windmills have been in use for a long time for pumping water from deep wells and grinding grain….as cheap mechanical power it is hard to beat. And by the end of their era technologically square rigger ships has hull speeds of 30 knots…..so I think there is a place for some uses of wind. It is a disappointment that they are so inefficient in generating electricity.

I will be passing through a major wind farm today near my destination….on my way by I will make like Don Quixote and tilt against them with their great huge arms grabbing tax dollars and giving back so little…….:-)

Liza and Wayne… BINGO!… if solar and wind power technologies were economically viable, WITHOUT GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIES, the private sector would be flocking to them… Which they obviously “aint”… The most efficient batteries available are silver-cadmium cells used in applications such as propelling the “Westinghouse class” of naval torpedos.. But they are horribly expensive to produce and the cadmium in them is a dangerous pollutant just like mercury… Solar cells I have written about on many Rebel posts… They, at the present level of development and science, are either a rich man’s fancy or more of an environmentalist’s dream… Germans invested billions of dollars on that dream and have come to a shuddering stop pushing that technology… Wind power developments have also blown billions of dollars “into the breeze” and there is now a faction in the Danish legislature determined to put a stop to this madness…

Isn’t the battery technology part of it, its just not good enough yet to be able to store anything collected? It is not efficient yet, but billions of dollars are and will be wasted. Figure out the storage first.

If solar and wind power were economically viable, the private sector would be building the solar and wind facilities not the government.

Bedwetter is a racist, he hates Nigerians! Where is Jimmy, I think this loser is Jimmy, he wanted to kick it up a notch. They never post at the same time.
Anyway a bedwetter is a bedwetter. And now we know he is a racist. He has publicly come out as a hater of Nigerians. What a frickin racist!! You don’t like Black people Yousa? You racist bedwetter.

Yousa said, “Ship the racist people that visit this site to Nigeria.”

You want to be shipped to Nigeria? Well, if that is what you want …

yousa Kamadick. Your not even real Just do us a favor and not speak on here. No one wants to listen to you. You are just wasting your time. You speaking nothing educational at all. You have no insight on anything. Your views are quite frankly useless. You are on here to get someone to say something so that you can get this website shut down. Try harder. You are wasting your time

I have a better idea Yousa…make the Saudis and the Persians leave THEIR oil in the sand……make the Indonesians plough their oil palm trees into the sand….declare eminent domain to the pipelines just like the railroad…..and stop any government from telling people who their friends and who their enemies are.
commented 2015-10-24 16:33:28 -0400
Close the oil sands. Outlaw the pipelines. Ship the racist people that visit this site to Nigeria.

Can Canada send this guy to educate Trudeau and Gerald Butts?
Mind you I guess it has nothing to do with the reality of the truth – it is about the investment waste to the crony Oligarchs who are selling this fraud energy!

Ok to everyone on here who says renewable energy is happening and right and good. Do I need to embarrass you all on here. Well it’s begun. First go to a mirror hit yourself a few times first. Here is my first question abt windmills. What do we do when it’s none windy days. Do we live in darkness until it gets windy out. Second solar panels. If you have them. You do realize you can’t start to anything until the sun hits them. Which is usually day time when everyone is at work. There is scientific studies that say solar panels can run your washer and dryer at once that’s it. So you can’t do dishes, shower, run your lights, etc. starting to get my drift. And then what happens at night when there is no sun do we all live in darkness too. They say the only way you could store energy is by having a DC battery the size of a air conditioner to store some energy. Well hey folks homes and the grid runs on AC not DC. Oh oops we didn’t speak abt that. Let’s see tesla stocks are failing already on the markets. Most of you don’t even know that. The car is already being considered a flop. Climate change is a myth. You do know nasa has satellites that track the worlds warmth and heat. And in the last 17 years the earth hasn’t warmed not 1 degree in last 17 years. So everyone that talks abt solar and wind farms. Do you find it lots of talk abt it. But nothing is actually being done. They talk abt emissions and targets. But nothing actually coming forward to build. What a joke society is to believe this garbage People are so dumb in the world and this country. Hey Ontario how’s your hydro one. Oh that’s right it’s an 18 billion dollar waste that didn’t do anything for Ontario except raise there energy bills through the roof. Haha Ontario people r so stupid to even figure that out. That green energy project wynne did 18 billion of no green energy results. But gta is so mulitcultural that it can’t figure anything out Keep bringing in more refugees that don’t know a thing. Why is it that Ontario is so uneducated and dumb Why does no one question the 18 billion dollar green energy flop in Ontario. The evidence is there for people to realize. But no one does anything abt it. Just keeps being dumb.

Andy asks, “What the F+++ are we apologizing for, or being shy for, for being world leaders in this clean, reliable source of untold energy???”

Politics. Dirty politics.
commented 2015-10-24 05:54:34 -0400
Isn’t that the ultimate irony?? Since the the late 1940s when Canadian – THAT’S CANADIAN! -scientists developed the cleanest and safest nuclear reactor power production technology in the world, at Chalk River on the Ottawa River, we are still playing at bat and bird killing wind farms? The Candu reactors have been bulletproof vis-a-vis disasters in Japan and Chernobyl… What the F+++ are we apologizing for, or being shy for, for being world leaders in this clean, reliable source of untold energy???
commented 2015-10-23 22:58:36 -0400
We should be building our Candu reactors, period.
commented 2015-10-23 21:58:16 -0400
I can still see the old wind mill on the farm, maybe wind and solar can return us to a more self reliant energy system. Isn’t the current one an expensive government program?
commented 2015-10-23 21:56:30 -0400
Global warming is a myth behind the uneconomic construction of uneconomic wind and solar projects. The high cost of electricity results in industry, jobs and people leaving Ontario. People are being mistakenly sacrificed for the sake of misguided doctrine. During the medieval warm period from 900 to 1100 AD the world was a lot warmer than it is today. That is a historical fact. That was long before the rise of modern industry. The sun (the planetary body not the newspaper) is the main factor in world temperature compared to which every other cause is insignificant.
commented 2015-10-23 21:15:34 -0400
Okay people a little sanity on the subject.
You all know I am far from believing in any extensive man made global warming based on carbon dioxide BUT many people use the rare earth element mantra with wind and solar power generation, which is true with many implementations.
There are ways of generating power from wind and sunlight that are not reliant on significant rare earth elements. I will spare you all the engineering and physics required to explain better was of generating power from those resources but they are already developed but strangely they are not popular even though they are safe and can have onsite backup generation facilities. Some of the technologies actually even have some ability to store some unused energy to assist when some extra is needed.
NONE of these technologies are implemented in Canada or Europe.

Wind and solar have been a disaster wherever they’ve been tried. They’ve helped to bankrupt and put millions out of work, with German utility companies near bankruptcy. They are nothing but subsidy scams to bleed the taxpayer dry.

I knew a man who was the poster child of “get off the grid”….an electrician…a survivalist….a self employed independant monetizer of sweat equity. He created a bunker for the end of the world. He sold power back to the grid….he was a devotee of Edgar Casey…..he was convinced the world would end at the end of the Mayan calendar ……he died three months later of a heart attack.

Tommorow is promised to no man.

This change is too sudden for untested and untried tech. This will create a tonne of market uncertainty thanks to the dismal failure of Ontario, and has the potential to cripple our economy.

Now is not the time to play games with our energy sector, nor to play games with ‘Venus Project’ social experiments.

Justin : WAKE THE FUCK UP!!!
commented 2015-10-23 17:32:07 -0400
Peter, Yes it will cost money, but it will also save money by lowering utility costs.
You are already paying subsidies to people who don’t deserve them.
Millions rent houses owned by other people, you need to look at both sides of the coin.

Bravo Zulu – “Bravo Zulu” for citing facts and figures which puts a sock in the mouth of utopian environmentalists… Another fact bending those Greenies into knots is how to cover up and try to ignore the bird and bat decimation by wind farms… Since it’s in the hundreds of thousands each year a number of ruses are being used to “lower” the counts… Including not counting bodies within the full “throw range” of the blades i.e. only at the base of the tower, or only doing a carcass count every 30 to 90 days… When the Digby Neck, Nova Scotia wind farm was built four years ago, the NS Department of Natural Resources played along with the ruse using both methods, and if you asked for a count of “the bodies” you had to PAY to sign up to get that data… The wind farms in Eastern North America, plus the ravages of the White Nose Syndrome fungus has already decimated millions of bats and the count grows daily… Try sitting outside on a summer’s evening without a gallon of bug spray on you and you will quickly learn the cause and effect of that reality…

Hey, NATHAN W,
Try ordering out for some power from Quebec or New York state that Ontario is subsidizing and see how unregulated the electricity market is. You are confusing electric power providers with pizza delivery men.
commented 2015-10-23 16:40:15 -0400
Andre Beucker, do you have any idea how much that costs? The average middle class family cannot afford the cost of this equipment. And I do not want to be paying for your upgrades through subsidies from the government because I and many millions of people rent.
commented 2015-10-23 16:13:19 -0400
Sorry should have said but the gov’t wouldn’t want the public to know about that…
