Geert Wilders is on his third trial in a Dutch court for speech crimes. Here are his opening remarks.
The first trial was declared a mistrial and dropped.
The state seemed to want him destroyed and brought "new" charges against him.
Then when he was discussing a central aspect of any democratic government policy, that of immigration, he was charged again for saying the Netherlands needed less Moroccans, as they are grossly over represented in all crime stats and abuse of state welfare programs.
Geert is charged with a hate crime for taking a rational position on a matter of public policy, namely, immigration.
And Geert is a sitting member of the Dutch Parliament.
This in effect means that the governing party has made it a criminal offense to oppose government policies, effectively ending any kind of actual democratic process.
Here is a reminder from England's comic actor, Rowan Atkinson from 2012 on where he felt England was going at the time.
I guess we can all decide how far he was from the mark by now.
