Weekend terror attacks in Israel; Palestinians balk at Kerry's support for Jordan

Igal HechtIsrael Correspondent

Showing a preference for inciting Palestinian youth to violence, officials reacted negatively to Secretary of State John Kerry's support of Jordan's idea to monitor Al Aqsa Mosque by video camera in an effort to calm the violence that began in mid-September, so far killing 9 Israelis and 52 Palestinians, 26 of whom were terrorists that attempted to stab innocent Israelis, PLUS:

* Twenty ISIS terrorists were killed, one member of the U.S. Special Forces team was killed and nearly 70 hostages were rescued after US Special Forces raided an ISIS terrorist camp in northern Iraq;

* A 23 year old Israeli-Arab crossed the border into Syria using a para-glider on Saturday in order to join one of the terrorist organizations fighting in the country;

* Nearly a year after an attack on a Synagogue which left him in a coma, Toronto born Rabbi Haim Rothman has died of his injuries bringing the death toll after the attack on the Bnei Torah Synagogue in Har Nof to 6. Rabbi Rothman is survived by his wife and ten children;

* Actor Morgan Freeman, in Israel shooting scenes for an upcoming National Geographic Series entitled, "The Story of God" which will air next year, took time to visit the Western Wall on Sunday.

Andrew sorry we will be next in line if we do not stop them

“Andrew Stephenson – “as Canadians….” and “we should not!” "

The word “should” is generally used when an opinion is being expressed. If I had written, “we DO not,” the connotations would be as you claim, since that particular term would be unfairly ascribing collective intent where none exists. However, “should” is free from these implications. It is also free of the urgency of “must”, or the indecisiveness of “could” – which are also terms that lack the implication of collective intent. In conclusion, my previous response is correct, including in the crucial objective arena.

Israel is a ‘buffer zone’ between Islam and Civilization.

I never purported to speak for all Canadians. You are also limited to speaking solely on your behalf; it is up to the reader to decide if my words resonate with their opinions.

Andrew – you don’t get to speak on behalf of all Canadians, you are limited to speaking on your own behalf.

I disagree Andrew. If democratic nations turn their backs on Israel, do you not realize the repercussions that inevitably will arise from that? Do you think that democracy would survive in the west in the long run? No, it is like a deck of cards, carefully placed, one card on top of another formed into a structure that embodies human rights, dignities, values, freedoms. Start removing those cards one by one, nation by nation, eventually the entire structure will fall and there will be no one standing except the dictators, the fascists, the regimes that have zero respect for individual rights or freedoms.

Do I detect a note of anti-Semitism from you? Does Israel not have the right to defend itself from attacks and ask for allies? Frankly the fact that a Canadian can be have such a callous disregard to such matters shows what our nation is becoming a nation of “me me me na na na :p” I worry what the future will bring.

“Israel is a beacon of democracy in a region of autocracies and theocracies. Who if not other democratic nations will aid Israel? Hillary Clinton supports Israel (however some doubt Obama’s support). There is concern how Canada will now stand. "

They are also extremely well armed and more than capable of defending themselves. In fact, I would argue that their problems with Jewish fundamentalism are far more threatening to their long term survival than Islamic forces outside their boundaries.

As Canadians, we have higher priorities. We should not be fighting other country’s wars of ideology for them, particularly given the high risk of retaliatory terrorism from doing so.

What, no leftie trolls to vilify the Israelis and tell us that they’re being too dogmatic and exclusive? That they’re not “co-operating” with the “Palestinians”? That these “terror attacks” are really just “lone-wolf gunmen”?

I guess that only applies to “extreme-right-wing” Canada…

Hyacinth, I agree.

Israel needs support, it has so little of it from the rest of the world. But I fear now that Trudeau is leading the country, Canada’s relations with Israel will sour and possible stop altogether. Another sad reason why having Trudeau in power is bad for Canada.

“Let Israel worry about Israel. Canada has enough of our own problems. Not sure why a small country on he far side of the world is so deserving of massive media attention.”

Let Israel worry about Israel. Canada has enough of our own problems. Not sure why a small country on he far side of the world is so deserving of massive media attention. If you’re going to squabble with the Palestinians, you should deal with it yourself instead of running crying to America (Canada?) whenever they squabble back.

Sam Young….I know what you are on about….when the last Pope made those remarks about Islam having a history of violence the hadjes felt compelled to kill however many Catholic nuns it took to make him eat those words.

I will always stand with Israel and not with murderous fanatics that attack them.

Don’t take this the wrong way. I’m not going to chase after the story on the internet. I already watched Ben Net talk in video footage.

Netanyahu and the Jewish people will never ever back down to any serious threat. Their history of being hated, has gone on for to long. they have had enough. Yet when Palestines get sick, where do they get treatment? In Israel, even Government officials go to the Jewish Hospital. They are treated like Human Beings there.
The sad part is that Palestine will never be truly happy, until all Jews, world wide, are dead. They truly believe in the Dogma of Islam.
The Muslims had better take heed. If Israel ever comes under serious attack, there is going to be a lot more dead Muslims than there are dead Jews.
It is unfortunate that Harper was the last world leader to stand up for the Jews. Did any of you see that Video of Harper in Israel, playing the piano, with a full band, backing him. He was singing ‘Hey Jude’. The audience were going crazy, standing ovations, on and on.
We have just lost a good man.

Ben Net making that stupid comment about how Hitler got the idea of exterminating the jews from a palestinian, sure isn’t helping with the peace process.

If Palestine lays down their weapons,there will be peace. If Israel lays down their weapons, they will be slaughtered
commented 2015-10-25 18:28:52 -0400
The Palestinian quest for blood continues. They will never come to the table, to try and end this conflict. Palestine will never be happy until all Jews are dead. They fired 114 Scud Missiles and 117 Morter Bombs, into Israelie territory in 2014. When firing off these weapons, they force Women and Children to gather around the Scud Launchers. They do this, so when Israel returns fire, it ends up with a lot of Women and Children dead. This makes good Headlines in the world press. Jews killing women and Children.
Golda Meir said this, regarding tke situation.
