Why Mulcair is wrong: Toronto is NOT "Canada's most important city"

Rebel Staff

Campaigning for Olivia Chow, NDP leader Thomas Mulcair called Toronto "Canada's most important city," adding, "When Toronto is strong, Canada is strong."

But that's just not true.

Canada's geographical, economic and political center of gravity has moved west to Calgary and Vancouver and Fort McMurray.

In fact, under Kathleen Wynne's Liberals, Ontario has become a have-not province.

Mulcair's view of Canada is hopelessly out of touch.

Ontario will end up like Greece unless the reckless spending and borrowing stops!

One year later and the Rebel have been proven right. Toronto is still a hole and has only gotten worse.

Dale,

Are you stupid? The list was determined based on stats, facts and figures. They didn’t just pull shit out of their ass like The Rebel often does.

Thomas took out French Citizenship in solidarity with his wife (French Citizen), do you know if his wife reciprocated?
commented 2015-08-11 13:13:47 -0400
Jimmy da Clueless . . . . Chicago no. 16 on that list? Safe city?
Toronto 8th . . . low business environment, food low, safety low . . . half of Tokyo . . . and it’s No. 1 in your weak mind?
TO Livability 4 . . . Singapore 52 and Tokyo 18 . . .
Toronto is like the Leafs . . . a failed Socialist Experiment . . .

Jason,

No. His opinion is irrelevant per what we were talking about. I wasn’t saying overall.
commented 2015-08-11 11:33:23 -0400
Jimmy calling opinions and arguments irrelevant, is his way of saying that he has no defense and counter arguments left. You win Kelvin.
commented 2015-08-10 23:22:27 -0400
Haha to funny Jimmy. I live in your 2nd favourite place sunny southern Alberta. Where men are men and the sheep are nervous lol
commented 2015-08-10 22:33:38 -0400
Kelvin,

You sound jealous. Where do you live?
commented 2015-08-10 21:27:54 -0400
My opinion is irrelevant? And yours isn’t? Who the fuck died and made you boss of that rat infested toilet. Fence off young street and call it a zoo
commented 2015-08-10 21:18:53 -0400
Kelvin,

Those numbers have nothing to do with Rob Ford – whose own record and accomplishments were fact checked to be greatly embellished and full on lies. Ford was debunked across the board.

And your opinion is irrelevant anyway. We shall see where Toronto ranks come next year. If not number one, it will most likely still be 2 or 3 in the entire world.
commented 2015-08-10 21:05:34 -0400
Those are numbers from when Ford was mayor, it’s been slipping down hill ever since

Toronto was ranked as the best city in the ENTIRE WORLD to live in. That’s pretty important.

Toronto has been ranked the best city to live in the world by the Economist. The ranking aggregates Toronto’s performance across a range of indexes, which include safety, livability and cost of living. National level rankings like the Economist’s Democracy and Global Food Security Index were also factored into the overall rank. So, like, we’re the best. Give yourself a pat on the back.

Mulcair will move to France after the election. He will then call Paris the most important city in his world. And he will definitely turn his back on Torontonians.
commented 2015-08-10 20:28:40 -0400
Toronto is no longer important. Look at the streets whenever there’s a civic holiday. All the government people close up shop and it’s like a ghost town at times. It’s gotten to the point that noone else shows up for work. The only thing going for Toronto is it’s “arts and culture”. A once dominating economic power house it’s sadly decayed to it’s present standing. The only thing propping it up is that it sucks in all the tax dollars that funds the provincial government. Take that away and we would be close to a Detroit.

The Unions are physically salivating with the prospect of Kathleen Wynne’s new proclamations. . The Ontario—-College of Trades. -- join or quit being in business The ORPP—- no choice—-just pay and collect. What is another 1.9 % to you? Thanks for the list of businesses —Kathleen. You saved us a lot of time and money. Can you ,in your worst nightmare- Missy Gov’t Person—- even begin to imagine a UNION 0f BUSINESS PEOPLE—- —that would ALL stop collecting TAXES ? Go ahead NDP and Liberals. Raise the minimum wage to $20/hr. Dream up another Pension that the employer has to contribute to and collect . We are nice people. We are not big Corporations that you hand out billions to, just to set up shop in Canada for a few years . We are here for the long term. We are here to stay. We are the sheeple that collect the majority of your taxes . We are the sheeple that you abuse almost to the point of Bankruptcy with every budget. You had better understand that we are not going to be your Slaves much longer. If you think that I am joking ,you would be wrong. What would you do if we stopped collecting all the taxes that you dream up? What would you do if we Unioized?

Chow doesn’t mean anything to anybody outside the city limits, and her precious downtown group wouldn’t even vote her in. I don’t know why Mulcair would stand with her.
I don’t miss Toronto at all. As far as culture, and beauty go, Montreal and Vancouver have it all over TO. Toronto has no liveability factor. Its dirty, stinky, overcrowded, congested and has never been considered a particularly beautiful city. It is big and ever sprawling I will give it that.
I don’t know what Mulcair is getting at, except the importance to him, of the huge voting pop in Ontario, and the Chow factor is what makes him suck up to TO at the moment.
“When Toronto is strong, Canada is strong.” Well, when it was, there was less of an ear shattering sucking noise coming from its bowels. But a strong Toronto and the NDP is an absolute oxymoron.lol.

Not me Paul, we’re going to the much more profitable under ground economy . I’d rather deal with real people than a bunch of corrupt carpet baggers from TO.

Regardless of whether Justin Turdeau or Tommie Commie get in to run this country (into the ground) we are ALL going to pay for it…

What would best describe Olivia Chow’s facial expressions, demeanour and posture ? Insecure , bewildered , disconcerted , bored , lost …? Hey Mulcair! Olivia ain’t no Jack Layton.

Bill,

Beg to differ all you want – Toronto is the city that is ranked against other world class cities all over the world. Not hick town Alberta. And yes, what you deem to be fluff is all part of what makes a city great. It goes without saying regarding Canada’s freedom.

I think it’s funny that you bring up Canada’s acceptance and freedoms – meanwhile people on here lose their shit over women’s boobies and Pride. Of course these people are not from Toronto, which further proves my point.
commented 2015-08-10 16:02:56 -0400
Hey I was born in Toronto and I’m not sure if that is an argument for or against it’s importance.
commented 2015-08-10 16:02:48 -0400
Jimmy, in your opinion,The big cities in Canada represent the world’s view of our country. I beg to differ. The rural towns and villages give a more accurate take on what makes Canada what it is. The main reason Canada is consistently ranked the best place to live is not TIFF or any of your other fluff. It is because of the acceptance an freedoms we espouse.
commented 2015-08-10 15:54:04 -0400
You fit the criteria.

Beyond the fact that you don’t know how to spell queer – what made you decide to ask if I was gay?

I notice recently there is an attention seeker posting comments seeking to wind up some of the regular contributors. What I do is not read any of the time wasters postings. Sure I am missing out on entertainment. Genuine contributors that I usually enjoy reading are now getting sidetracked by taking this person seriously.
