Why was Elections Canada so desperate to give sole-sourced contract to partisan Assembly of First Nations?

Brian LilleyRebel Co-Founder

Elections Canada, the impartial, non-partisan arbiter of what is allowed in Canadian elections, signed a contract with the Assembly of First Nations and paid them nearly one million dollars to increase voter turnout among aboriginals.

The AFN was supposed to encourage First Nations members to register to vote and teach them how to get ID if they needed it.

Another thing the AFN was required to do (according to the contract) was be non-partisan.

But the AFN is a completely political group and Elections Canada should know that.

I’m sure no one was surprised when AFN leaders made political comments and endorsed candidates during the election on an “Anybody But Conservative” basis.

Elections Canada pushed through a sole sourced contract to the AFN - a contract worth just shy of one million dollars even though the norm in government circles is that any contract above $25,000 must be put out to tender.

Whether you vote Conservative, Liberal, NDP or Green, every Canadian should want fair and impartial elections. How confident do you feel that this is the case when one of the groups selected to run the voter outreach had key leaders pushing an anybody but Conservative message?

Do you think this would stand if the Canadian Taxpayers Federation was chosen to push a low tax message while also getting a million dollars to register people to vote?

The whole contract stinks and Elections Canada refuses to answer key questions about the situation including whether or not they’ll rescind any part of this ongoing contract in the next election.

We can’t have advocacy groups that push a particular message getting large sums of government money to increase voter turnout.

Bob. The Indians didn’t have to use smarts to knock off the P.C’s. It was the Harper government getting stupider. His actions forced them to come out in force and take action to hopefully sway the vote, although I think Harper was doing that all on his own. Bill C-45, C-51 The Transparency Act The Fair Elections Act all aimed at Natives. And then this. Giving the natives money to help them get out and vote … Buh bye Harpy.

The Natives are getting smart. The reserve near us just settled with the government in August or Sept for almost $100 million for a land claim and there four more they’re still working on. The government team said they had to settle because the courts are too risky to relay on. I hope they use the courts this time.

Hey Cloud-boy, you must get punched out a lot. Still have any teeth or is it just gums these days.

Eileen. We need to give the Rebel more money so they can get out there. Youtube is not the way to do it.
commented 2015-12-09 15:14:39 -0500
The AFN is still laughing out loud. " We knew Harper was a moron, but this takes the cake." Buh Bye Harpy.
commented 2015-12-09 13:38:53 -0500
The AFN is made up of chiefs who were embarrassed by the disclosure act. Of course they would want the Conservatives out of power so they can go back to the good old days of pulling in the pork while their residents can continue to boil water. Oh, I forgot, Fearless Leader has also promised to fix this problem no matter how much this costs taxpayers. Whoever in Elections Canada thought this contract was a good idea should be fired or given an IQ test.

Keep hammering away at this, Brian! The Rebel seems to be the only voice of reason left for Canadians who are opposed to the many knee-jerk policies and actions of the lefty fringe! I have been watching a lot of Fox News from USA, and many of their news programs are hard-hitting against Obama. The Rebel needs to up the rhetoric and call a spade a spade when it comes to some of these issues. Elections Canada needs to be investigated for this nefarious contract! What can the Rebel supporters do to ensure that we do our part in hammering away at this blatant partisanship that occurred?

Unfortunately J Kay, censoring does occur, even here on the Rebel.

Donald Allan, Agreed. I joined CBC.ca a few weeks ago and right away, a comment I made on gun control was disabled. It was a 2-line suggestion that the $15-$20,000,000 tab by Quebec to renew the gun registry might save more lives if spent in another area. After that one was disabled, all my comments were flagged for moderation and many disabled. SJW’s(Super Justice Warriors) like CBC perceive themselves as superior moral guardians who are heavenly ordained to supervise backward people like us. They preach free speech but ironically suppress anyone who have the guile and guts to give opposing views. It’s an Orwellian nightmare.

Bruce Kirk, Sad , but I have to agree with most of what you say. However , I would ask how my individual voice or our collective voice could drown out the opposition which includes Peter Mansbridge and the entire CBC, the Toronto Star ,the public sector unions , teachers and police and firefighters associations that voted for their own power and pocketbooks.
The socialist parties (Liberal and NDP) , the unions and the media are all integrated , a cabal, an unholy trinity. So are the left going to make things fair by reducing the budget of the CBC, their propagando outlet? Are they going to reduce the size and scope of the unionist bureaucracy? Not likely.
Before the elections in Ontario, ALberta and Canada we had something great to lose. Our Canada. But it isn’t our Canada anymore. The values of these leftists are not my values. For conservatives, we no longer have a voice in what Canada is today and tomorrow. I think we need to peacefully walk away from the disaster which is papa Trudeau’s constitution and reconstitute it based on the values that built the country.

Charleton G, I was wondering that myself. In November, Bernard Valcourt said that “some aboriginal men have a “lack of respect” toward women on reserves and that a national inquiry wouldn’t accomplish anything”. Carolyn Bennett rejected this idea completely and said, " I think it was appalling in terms of blame. I think it doesn’t deal with the effects of colonization. It doesn’t deal with the effects of child abuse." I doubt that the inquiry will do much except make everyone feel good because the native community, the police and the government all know rnow why the women have been murdered and missing. The Muslim community never lets their women out of their sight; the native women run away from abusers on their reserves, head for the cities where they have little support and end up on the streets being abused by native and non native men alike.

Canada has been a corrupt banana republic ever since the first Trudeau. Nothing new here.

who needs clean drinking water anyways when you can vote liberal.
commented 2015-12-09 10:56:56 -0500
Gee the natives got their enquiry into murdered and missing women. I wonder what will be covered by the media when they find the majority are due to native criminals.

party’s over folks, the idea of Canada no longer exists. All government from municipal, city, provincial and federal is a leftist cancer riddled unionized bureaucratic tumor. Having an election, at any level, means nothing anymore. ‘Elected’ officials are nothing more than parrots, for the political elite and unionized bureaucrats, to deliver their masters edicts to the unwashed masses (ie; taxpayers). We have only our own apathy and appeasement to blame. This situation exists because we have all been complacent and lazy, taking our freedom and prosperity for granted while the leftist cancer spread unchecked.

We witnessed the death of democracy in the last election. The question is how do we fix it?
commented 2015-12-09 10:03:33 -0500
No sane Canadian has ever seen Elections Canada as anything but a political arm of the Liberal Party. Let’s face it, EC has no concern for real fairness in Canadian elections. Rather it is eager to support and promote everything Liberal and to oppose anything Conservative! It is a farce and needs serious and total reform!

Roy Jeanine said, "We have elected in all provinces except Saskatchewan, the worst provincial and federal governments one can ever imagine. "

Well, Saskatchewan had its worst provincial government already. They were just ahead of the curve. Luckily Brad Wall turned that province around and now it is the only bastion of freedom left in Canada.

I see the aboriginals are still referring to north america as turtle island. At this point, I am just surprised that there isn’t some law or truth and reconciliation recommendation that we all start saying turtle island.
commented 2015-12-09 01:28:28 -0500
I vote for BC, AB and SK to separate and Elect Brad Wall as President.
commented 2015-12-09 01:10:55 -0500
I feel so helpless, the west has to separate but the only thing, we have an evil socialist government for 4 years in Alberta. How has this country lost its way so badly. Just seems so bad, everything is just upside-down and doesn’t make sense. How are we ever going to turn things around.
commented 2015-12-09 01:04:37 -0500
We have elected in all provinces except Saskatchewan, the worst provincial and federal governments one can ever imagine. All these levels of governments are bent on bringing us down to our knees and these government officials always put oil and gas, coal, farmers and ranchers down. I don’t understand why they want the demise of this great country. Look at trudoop how he apologized in front of Obama for our oil and gas resources. The nerve. Obama shot back "I make no apology for our resources. " nutley is so evil.

Yes the west needs to break away, soon the left will get 100% of the votes like Kim Jong Un
commented 2015-12-09 00:48:20 -0500
Canada is broken. The Liberals have infiltrated nearly every corner of government and the media, and are now fully in charge. Few options remain, one of course is for those in the west to walk away. I think this time it just may happen.

I am spitting angry about this! Elections Canada has to go they are crooked!
No all the damage is done maybe they’ll look into it! You dam right they are going to look into it!!!
People have to have jerks like this deciding who has to go and who they can manipulate =in who the hell are you that you are going to decide for other people? You sure as hell don’t decide for me!!
So what compensation are people who absolutely despise Socialist Government going to get for retribution?

Have you any idea how much quality of life and income lost you have caused? Of course not your too busy controlling people and too slow to realize the nuisance that you really are – I do not want to see this corrupt group managing any election Provincial or Federal again! What can we do to get these people terminated from management of voting during elections in Canada?
Is there nothing that isn’t rotted through the floorboards in this country anymore?
commented 2015-12-09 00:13:20 -0500
It seems to me that the Liberal (and the Liberal voters) just want to pretend they support democracy while they hold all the power just like many dictatorships around the world that also pretend to hold election but hose elections are rigged. Is Canada on that road too?
commented 2015-12-08 23:59:34 -0500
1) the federal bureaucracy is Liberal. The civil servants in the federal bureaucracy seems intent on changing the rules or circumventing the rules in favour of the Liberals.

2) the legislative branch is Liberal

3) the executive branch is Liberal

4) the judicial branch is Liberal. The judges seem to always rule in favour of the Liberals or against the Conservatives.

5) the senate will soon be Liberal once Justin stacks the senate with Liberals.

6) the media is Liberal and always seem to report in favour of the Liberals.

If no people in any of the above list is interested in democracy, the why the hell do we bother? Why the hell do they bother to pretend that they want democracy?

There seems to be no point anymore since Conservatives have zero influence anymore. How is that democracy?
