Winnipeg city councilor's "Berlin Wall" remark derides victims of communism

Marissa SemkiwRebel Commentator

Jenny Gerbasi, a Winnipeg city councilor, just compared a traffic blockade at Portage & Main to the Berlin Wall.

Yes, because crossing the Berlin Wall against the risk of getting shot at by communists is exactly the same as walking through the underground at Portage and Main.

It doesn’t matter where you stand on this issue. Frankly, who cares?

But by comparing it to East Germany, she’s done us all a disservice.

Winnipeg is home to the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.

And it’s sad to see that an elected member of council has no understanding of what a human rights abuse really is.

But see, what better way to try and help everyone forget about the extreme failures that communist countries have been, either economically, with Human Rights, or sometimes even with both, usually both. What better way to help everyone forget these failures, than to diminish the event.

That way, they can push for communism again, because then everyone forgot about what it actually leads to.

“This report is a steaming pile of poo.” Not forgetting that “poo” is often used as fertilizer. In North America, we use the animal kind for gardens, etc. I fertilized my Cedar Hedge last year with a product made from, ahem, Bull Shit! After a winter’s rain, the cedar trees are thriving. In China, Human “poo” is often used to grow mushrooms, which they then sell to us! Don’t disparage all poo! Yes, it may be hyperbole, however “offensive” is in the eye of the beholder. I’m sure the Berlin Wall brings back many unpleasant memories for many people. It is irresponsible at best to make such a comparison. This councillor should have known better.

This report is a steaming pile of poo.

First, you mispronounced “Portage,” and also “Gerbasi.” More importantly, comparing the downtown barrier to the Berlin Wall is hyperbole, but it’s not offensive. Everyone is way too damn quick to claim offense these days, when it’s transparently about scoring points against the other side.

A pile of poo.

Thank you, Marissa Semkiw for the EXCELLENT Journalism!

I’m also reminded that WE MUST make sure that the Memorial / Monument to the VICTIMS of Communism ( and any form of Marxism ) is BUILT right at the Site that is Chosen – next to the SCOC!

That is where it BELONGS.

Well, Robert, the French spoken in Quebec sure ain’t the French spoken in France, so they may as well be separate languages. Ditto for the English spoken here versus in England (and that goes double for the English spoken here versus in the States)… Never mind that Spanish, in all its dialects, still out-populates French here…

I repeat — lighten up!

There is no language called “Canadian” Prince Night. The Canadas (upper and lower) came to be as colonies of the UK and France.
We speak English and french.

Vlad — which language would that be, in North America? It ain’t English — that’s spoken in the UK (mostly London). We have Canadian, American, French Canadian, Creole (French American), and various dialects of Spanish (which out-populate French Canadian by a wide margin…), and don’t even get me started on the various Native languages and dialects…!

In other words, lighten up, dude!

But for a local politician to refer to a local blockade as something symbolizing tyranny and oppression (not to mention death if crossed) is taking hyperbole a little far…

Lefties make such stupid comparisons! “Those who do not remember their history are doomed to repeat it!”

@coryschreyer – nice little annoying frenchie Canadian style jab – you’re in north America, speak the fkg language.

And now back to the bigger picture – annoying socialists spinning hyperbole to the sheeple to get their ways. Jenny Gerbasi is just one of those socialists – hope you get run over by traffic Grabasi!!! And soon.

Your French way of saying Portage Avenue was very cute, Marissa.
