Like me, she is here in Mexico to cover the "caravan" of migrants determined to reach the U.S. border. But La Riva also believes, for example, that "the U.S. government is white supremacist," and that this caravan is somehow America's fault.
In Part 2 of our conversation, La Riva explains that the real solutions to the problems in Venezuela, and around the world, isn't less socialism, but more of it. She says she's been to Venezuela many times, and that it is “still a capitalist country."
"The dream of the immigrants is to some day go home," she told me, citing her Mexican-born mother as an example. La Riva says her mother was a permanent resident of the U.S. for 50 years but "she never wanted to become a citizen, because she was too proud to be Mexican, and she always wanted to go home."
There's a lot more!
