She emphasizes the children taking part in the caravan, even though I saw far more adult males than mothers with babes in arms.
It doesn't take long for our conversation to veer from what she's seen on the ground, to leftist ideology. Gloria is a self-described socialist, and what she tells me pretty much lines up with that worldview.
For example, she says the U.S. government is "extremely racist." So naturally I asked her why all these migrants were so eager to enter a "racist" country, and she explains that they "aren't really aware" of this “racism,” you see...
She also claims that "there are no legal means" for these people to come to the United States, and that this too is evidence of systemic racism.
La Riva seems to base a lot of her positions on anecdotal evidence, underpinned by socialist talking points.
But what do you think? Tell me in the comments!
PS: Stay tuned for Part 2 of this conversation, when La Riva doubles down on her "blame America" position and has some... interesting things to say about Venezuela!
