After the nightly demonstration supporters of the turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan took to the streets again in Vienna saturday afternoon: Around 1,200 participants marched from the Christian-Broda-Platz to the Heldenplatz. Accordign to the police, the rally was peaceful - but participants demolished the outside sitting area of a kurdish restaurant chain in the Mariahilfer-Strasse. Loud battle calls were heard.
The “demonstration against the military coup in Turkey” was organized by the Erdogan supporting group “Union of European Turkish Democrats”. After 15:00 they gathered at Christian-Broda-Platz, where already loud battle calls in turkish could be heard. For instance “My life for my country”, or “Today’s warriors never die and the country will never divide”.
Next to “Türkiye” (Turkey), “Recep Taqyyip Erdogan” or “Allahu akbar” they also changed against the now living in US Exile preacher Fethullah Gülen. He is being made mainly responsible for the nightly military coup in Turkey.
According to police the demonstration drew about 1,200 people - many of whom waved the turkish flag. Also Erdogan portraits printed on fabric were rolled out. After 16:15 the entire group marched down Mariahilfer-Strasse, where the incident in the restaurant happened.
