3 reasons to cancel Telus contracts

Holly NicholasRebel Commentator

I cancelled my Telus contract as of the end of my billing cycle and the point of me doing so wasn’t solely due to their overt partisan support of the carbon tax Justin Trudeau has promised to impose on Canadians.

This tax is a horrible, controversial and unfounded idea based on bad policy, but it was Telus’ political partisanship, virtue signalling and double standards that drove me away.

As a cell phone company, they rely heavily on the mining of rare earth elements, oil and gas and employ people in third world countries that don’t have carbon taxes while lecturing us on how to live our lives.

With Telus, you never know who they’ll become as they play dress up in an attempt to hide who they really are. I know there are other companies that support this carbon tax, so why am I not cancelling with them?

Well, it’s pretty simple - they’re not hypocrites that publicly endorse politicians and virtue signal using my money.

Many have asked who to switch to, but that will depend on your preferences. Some companies support issues and causes you may not agree with so it’s your choice and I won't endorse any particular company.

I can tell you the main reason I chose my new provider is I'll save $50 per month which will soften the blow when Notley’s guilt carbon tax hits us in Alberta on January 1, 2017.

The Carbon tax is the biggest scam in the World. Anybody who supports this scam, are thinking Canadians are sheep meant to be fleeced. No sympathy for Telus who outsource their support services in the Philippines and Quatamala while we have so many Canadians out of a job

Hi Holly. I cancelled my Telus cell plan last year. After all the bullshit abuse that I endured from them, I decided that I had enough of them.

Every two months, they would call me up and tell me to upgrade. The last time they called me, I told them I knew that they were going to ask me to upgrade. I told the rep that I had already shopped around for a new contract with a different company that would beat their price. I added that if Telus ever called me again to upgrade, that I would jump ship.

One time they told me to renew months before my plan was over. I asked why I would do this if it meant I would get penalized for renewing early. The rep told me that if I wait until my contract ends, that my plan may not be available any more. I told the rep that if my contract runs out, then I would just be on month to month with my same rate. They had nothing to say at this point.

Even the store sales staff are nasty. They use aggressive sales techniques, are condescending and all seem to have some kind of an attitude problem.

It also took Telus forever to switch over to sim cards. For the longest time, they would simply refer to sim cards as international standard, as an attempt to cover up their backwards technology.

I am never going back to Telus.

Telus was a shit company long before this.

Jimmy Reece maybe when liberals stop being corrupt and crapping on us when they have their damn hands out and stop calling us racist for legitimately criticizing a minority then i will respect them more. Maybe when they look in the damn mirror i will do that as well. Maybe when they stop lying and criticize fairly then i will respect them. Maybe when they quit attacking freedom i will respect them more.

Jimmy Reece many people were doing well until Notley showed up and the left takes more and more of our money , and we do work hard, you should try it some time.
commented 2016-10-08 21:10:17 -0400
This is why I object to Unions putting out a political stance. They are supposed to represent there members for negotiations … not tell us what to do!

Jimmy is not funny at all. He’s sick

Pride ALWAYS comes before the fall Jimmy.

Jimmy Reese says he wants to help out people less fortunate than he. Give a solid example. Is that helping out his public service union? It would not be Alberta charities, since they are hurting.

Just exactly how do you help jimmy-bob? Give examples with numbers both dollars and hours. Not that it will matter since you will make it up like every thing else, but it is worth the laugh, loser.
commented 2016-10-08 20:16:17 -0400
Jimmy Reese is funny. Absolutely stupid, but funny. Regressive stupidity does equal funny, in their mind.

Sad thing is jim-bob’s funny is someone else’s pain.

That jimmy-bob laughs at pain says all that is needed to be said about him or her or it as a person…loser, totally and complete.

RON VOSS thanks for the clarity. I really did not know the president was involved in this garbage.
However, I use Andrea because she basically started this with her tweet – didn’t she?
Anyway, it really does not matter, Telus will just have to learn the hard way that siding with the selfie King and his blonde bimbo Mckenna is a stupid move that will cost them money.
But like I said thanks for clearing that up for me, I did not research any of it other than what was on the Rebel. I saw red and I reacted.
Jimmy Reece or are you really Jimmy duh Silva, you sure sound like him/her/it. You and your ilk are the reason we have asshole Trudeau screwing all of us. The asshole is even screwing the dumb asses that voted for him – like you, you turd.

By you trying to mock liberals for something that you can’t possibly know is actually true – like you have done here again, you are suggesting that you are the opposite of failure – which is success.

Since you can barely pay your bills – clearly you need some financial assistance and I would be happy to help you out with the money I make from my successful business. As a liberal, I like to help out those less fortunate than me.

Holly, with respect to the lot of other companies that support this carbon tax too, I am not sure that they can be given a pass because they are less publicly vocal as Telus was in using social media.
For one thing it is a lot more difficult in cancelling with some of them and finding an acceptable alternative.
You showed a Government of Canada news release for a Joint Statement on Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition which touted that “carbon pricing (carbon tax) is one of the most efficient ways to reduce emissions and stimulate the market to make investments in innovation, and to deploy low-carbon technology”.
The news release was to identify the private sector partners (which included Telus by the way) that co-signed that statement along with Minister of Environment Catherine McKenna. I think that signing on carries more weight than simple optics.
You suggest that you are not cancelling these other companies “because they are not hypocrites that publicly endorse politicians and virtue signal using my money”. Wasn’t the news release about those companies co-signing with a politician, McKenna, a public endorsement of McKenna and what she wants to accomplish? If you buy services from the other companies, I would suggest that they as well are virtue signalling using your money. And I would suggest that their impact in this debate goes beyond virtue signalling.

Marty I wouldn’t lay all the heat on Goertz as they probably hired her because she fits with Telus’ corporate culture. If you go to the web site for the group, Smart (?) Prosperity, mentioned in the Telus you will find that among the 22 “prominent business and civil society leaders” that signed SP’s Joint Statement that begins with “We are pleased to hear that Canada will put a price on carbon emissions” is non other than Telus’s President & CEO, Darren Entwistle:

Well maybe Peter shouldn’t have bragged about what a hard working successful conservative he is and claim the liberals on here are all living in their parents basement and getting government cheques.

Karma is a bitch.
commented 2016-10-08 17:55:37 -0400
Prompted by Telus’ political activism and to make a statement of dissatisfaction, I looked into other alternatives for my landline phone service and found an option at half the price. If they only had let sleeping dogs lie.
commented 2016-10-08 17:29:36 -0400
I wonder how Telus feels now about hiring Andrea Goertz as their senior Vice president. She sure as hell brought a hammer down on them. Idiot woman.
Andrea Goertz as brainless as Justin Trudeau. Neither one of them think before they open their mouths and speak.
I phone and waited until I was able to get through and then told the rep that unless I saw a public retraction by the brainless Andrea regarding her support that I would cancel at the end of my billing cycle.
I have been a Telus customer since 1993. 23 years, but they along with anyone else that supports Trudeau can kiss my ass.
Jimmy Reece and all the other trolls can also go fuck them selves. It doesn’t matter if you cancel now or in a year you will still cancel and Telus will still be short one more customer, any business small or large that is worth their salt will try to stop the exodus any way they can.
I suspect Andrea will be either fired or quietly moved to another position very shortly – stupid bitch.

Canadian Mongrel hit the nail on the head.

Jimbo….once again, you dont have a clue. When money is not had through government checks in the mail or from mommy on weekly basis, paying to cancel something you dont want is a waste, specially when times are tough. So your statement is just another symptom of the leftist regressive fucktards like you.
commented 2016-10-08 15:43:52 -0400
Jimmy Reece,

I cannot speak for Peter, but I do remember a post of his that he was heading to Saskatchewan for work. Pretty much like my son did by going to BC. In short, under-employed or unemployed.

So yes, he could be hurting thanks to the regressive left policies you are enamoured with and have no affect on you for whatever reason.

Glad you show the usual empathy of the regressive left. Loser.

I’m going to research this for sure. I just recently cancelled Shaw due to piss poor service and signal. Now I may have to cancel Telus? God I wish we had more options here in 3rd world Canada. I’m sure Mexico City has more options than Vancouver BC.
commented 2016-10-08 15:10:47 -0400

Tell me what you would have to pay to cancel your contract? 150 – 200 bucks? You can’t be doing to well in life if you can’t afford that to make your point about Telus.
commented 2016-10-08 14:58:56 -0400
Pretty stupid Telus supporting a tax which will really effect their operating costs and be passed down to their customers in increased rates.

You need to see some of these remote off the grid cell sites that Telus has to fill in coverage gaps – powered by either gas or diesel generators.
commented 2016-10-08 14:51:02 -0400
The problem with these companies, Telus, Earls, Tim Hortons, etc., is they are not run by entrepreneurs. That phase of their corporate history is…history. These executive officers are out of the same elitist academic background as other regressive bureaucrats. The hard work is done, and they can just cruise only working to lobby or brown-nose the government.

Also remember that Telus never did start from an entrepreneurial background, but from a government corporate background as Alberta Government Telephones. After privatization, they had a long period of monopoly, which they still have in several parts of Alberta. They never did consider customer contentedness being important, because they did not have to. Customer satisfaction is not part of the corporate culture.

Jimmy said, "You would think that if you are so outraged with Telus – you would pay whatever you need to pay to get the fuck out of there. "

Really, Jimmy?

It all comes down to what I can afford. I literally do not have enough money to pay out a contract that I would break and then have to pay for another service from another provider.

So, Jimmy Reece, do not presume to determine what you think is my level of commitment to my anger at Telus.

I agree with Mike. You do not even realize just how stupid your comment is.
commented 2016-10-08 14:07:20 -0400
Jimbo…..do you even realize how fucking stupid you sound? Probably not, another symptom of the the leftist regressive fucktards.
commented 2016-10-08 13:56:55 -0400

You would think that if you are so outraged with Telus – you would pay whatever you need to pay to get the fuck out of there.

It doesn’t really have the same impact when you wait a few months or years and THEN cancel your contract. They will have new customers to replace you.

@ Bob Egli

The only way you will know if their apology is sincere is if they stop any political activity. An apology means nothing if it is not accompanied by a corrective action.
commented 2016-10-08 13:37:25 -0400
I am unwilling to break my contract because I would have to pay the fees, but I will be closing my account with them when I contract is complete. Just cannot afford to break the contract.
