Is taxing generosity the PC Alberta way? In the new Alberta budget, the tax credit for donating to charity was slashed from 21% to 12.75% -- that's a difference of 40%.
A grassroots movement called Albertans4Giving is trying to reverse this decision.
Brad Tennant, a spokesperson for the group, says the $90 milllion the government will save by making this cut is "puny" compared to the overall budget.
He adds there are many different areas in which the government could cut funding, instead of punishing people's generosity while cutting the money going to organizations that help the community.
