“Bancouver”: Proposed anti-balloon rule shows city's need for conservative opposition

Christopher WilsonRebel Commentator

Vancouver has earned the “Bancouver” nickname with its zeal for banning things that make life easier for people, but we may just have outdone ourselves as the City of Vancouver Parks Board has announced a proposal to ban balloons.

Instead of encouraging people to clean up their balloons or educating the public about the hazards discarded balloons present to wildlife, we’re going to ban them from our public parks and events.

It doesn’t occur to anyone in “no-fun Vancouver”, that proposals like this shouldn’t even see the light of day.

Watch as I show you how the supposedly conservative NPA ceded control of the chair of the Parks Board to the Green's enabling these types of ridiculous proposals.

This is just another instance in a long list of recent failures by the NPA, the party that right of centre conservatives once called home in this city.

But ever since Gregor Robertson and Vision Vancouver came to power, the NPA have been a total and complete disaster in opposition.

They’ve failed to build momentum and opposition to Mayor Robertson’s far left environmentalist platform and policies, despite being given plenty of ammunition.

They’ve failed to take a stand against the growing influence of property developers and foreign capital flooding into Vancouver’s real estate market and more recently, they’ve failed to nominate a conservative candidate in an up-coming by-election to fill the council seat vacated when Geoff Meggs left to become Premier Horgan’s chief of staff.

I think common sense will prevail when the proposed balloon ban is voted on and while the NPA has given up control of the chairmanship to the Green Party, they still have four votes that should swiftly kill this stupid idea.

If they don’t, all hope may be lost for conservatives in this city as all that will be left is a sea of hard-left environmental socialism and a moniker we so rightly deserve— Bancouver.

Jay Kelly said “that most Americans do not support Trump and virtually no Canadians do.”

Jay Kelly is the idiot in the room. If most Americans don’t support Trump, then who the hell voted him into office? You know, it takes a majority vote for you to win an election. The truth is that most of Americans DO SUPPORT TRUMP. And a lot of Canadians wish he were our Prime Minister instead of the Traitor we have. So you’re wrong on both counts, ho hum, as usual.

Jay Kelly when did you survey Canadians?

Jay Kelly sorry but most Americans do support Trump ,no matter what left wing liars tell you. And yes if you blame Trump for your own actions then you are a f*cking idiot.

Drew Wakariuk says that “the idiots will probably blame Trump for it somehow”.

That is somewhat insulting. You know that most Americans do not support Trump, and virtually no Canadians do.

We “idiots” — most Americans and almost all Canadians — did you really want to call us all “idiots”?

Errant helium balloons did cause 30 power outages in BC last year. If my lights went out because of some balloon I’d be annoyed. :) Banning all balloons is excessive though and a typical overreaction.

Drew, isn’t it astonishing how leftist regressives blame everything on Trump!

Tammie that is a good one, the idiots will probably blame Trump for it somehow. But i will enjoy it when they have to suffer.

The bigger question here is why are conservative political parties, across the board from municipal to provincial to federal, completely failing to get any traction with common sense fiscal and social conservative policies? If they’re not twisting themselves into pretzels to appease the left or apologize for something, they’re shooting themselves in the foot for being stupid. And as any election approaches, the stupid just increases. I think they’ve been so duped by the media and whatever, that they truly think they need to become liberals to win. Obviously, to any real conservative, this isn’t working. As I see it, the field is wide open to anyone willing to get back to common sense and who can steer a Conservative party in that direction not cowering to the PC crowd and who can especially focus on the importance of not saddling our grandchildren with incredible debt. Perhaps such a party might have to bide their time in the short term but in the long run, as I’ve said before, when people get hit enough, especially in the pocket book, they’re going to be looking for a real and viable alternative and right now that is something that doesn’t really exist.

I would like to see a complete ban on disposing diapers and doggy poop baggies in public
garbage receptacles….think that would fly in Bancouver?
This ban on balloons is just as ridiculous!

I see it as a beginning, of the end of celebrations. Chip away a little at at time. Community, life, enjoyment. Into a citizenry of mindless automatons following the PIPER. I agree rubber ballon’s are not good to be be let go,there are biodegradable alternatives, Cure the disease, not the symptom

The humourless left are at it again. Banning is all they know or want to accomplish. They want to create a real Narnia where its always winter but never Christmas.
