BuzzFeed’s “Plus Size Fashion” video is cruel and stupid

Gavin McInnesArchive

BuzzFeed has just put out a stupid video, where fat girls recreate real fashion layouts.

It is supposed to be empowering, but it's really cruel to encourage theses women to stay obese, and delude them into thinking they look like supermodels.

Thank You Gavin!!,

Absolutely spot on. Fat is not nor will it ever be beautiful…..why do those words even need to be written when it is so self evident? Just admit you have no self control and start to take charge of your life. Do us all a favor and help unburden the medical system a little…..PLEASE!!

Gavin, I would love to see more of this “reality” in your weekly show. Love you more than a friend.

I personally do not care for boneracks, and quit blaming men for all this, it is not like women hunt down obese men like rabid nymphos.

I dunno, some guys like a little meat on their women – but yeah there is a limit wher the weigh makes sex a health risk to both partners.

I shared Sgt Burk’s views on fat people on your other fat show.
I’ll share Louise L. Hay’s views on fat on today’s fat show.
The “Probable Cause” (mindsets and behaviour patterns – read the book) listed for:
FAT – Oversensitivity. Often represents fear and shows a need for protection. Fear may be a cover for hidden anger and a resistance to forgive.
OVERWEIGHT – Fear, need for protection. Running away from feelings. Insecurity, self rejection. Seeking fulfillment.”
Between these two people, John and Louise, anyone should be able to not be fat anymore. Find out WHY you’re fat – it’s all in your head – and then learn some discipline and lose it. Knowing why should keep it off…it won’t kill you to try will it…because your fat will…kill you!

I feel the need to “weigh in” here. Gavin, you stated that these women have “too much self esteem”. Quite the opposite. NOBODY with even a shred of self esteem would ever let themselves get to the state of obesity that these women are at. And if they did, they’d be doing their damnedest to take it off. These women are addicts, plain and simple. Addicts – another group with no self esteem. Their obesity is just a symptom of their addiction. They’re addicted, not to food per se, but to the emotional bandage effect of eating unhealthy “comfort foods”. Many people who get gastric bypass surgery end up addicted to something else, like booze, after they lose the weight. Their drink or substance of choice becomes the comfort food.

So then why would these women let some homosexual makeup artists and fashion mavens parade them in front of a camera like trained whales, pretending to be models when they look so disgusting? Denial. Another symptom of addiction. They’re like the drunk who’s trying to quit, but goes to a boozy open bar party anyway because they’re in denial about their addiction. And like the hippo ladies, the drunk ends up making an abject fool of themself in public, but refuses to admit they weren’t the life of the party. I know these things because I used to weigh 300 lb 11 years ago. Then I got hooked on booze after losing the weight. Now I’m thin, clean and sober, and I got (and stayed) there by learning some self esteem. There’s no such thing as too much self esteem.

Dramatics aside, you do have some valid points there Gavin. It is not so odd that some are trying to glorify a very unhealthy lifestyle … again. History does repeat itself, but this time it is of the opposite end of the spectrum. Remember Twiggy? Supermodel, incredibly unhealthy, very anorexic, a skeleton with a pretty face and nice clothes. Many young girls tried to look like her, they starved themselves, some ended up in hospitals, some died.
“In the 1960’s the waif-like look became popularized by the supermodel Twiggy Lawson. This was the first time in history that an underweight woman became the standard for the ideal body image.”

Gavin: this appeals to “cruel and stupid” people. Simply refuse to be a part of it and discourage others from deluding themselves in cruel and stupid ideologies which feed on cruelty and stupidity.
