“Civil war”: Bernier and Scheer just cost the Conservatives a majority in 2019

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

I was flying to Halifax, to cover the Conservative Party convention, when Maxime Bernier announced his resignation from the party, and his plan to start a new one.

He outlined disagreements he had with Andrew Scheer, including Scheer’s support for supply management — a form of subsidy for Quebec’s dairy industry.

But frankly, none of Bernier’s stated grievances seemed impossible to resolve.

Bernier was already steering the party towards his views on immigration and multiculturalism. And the party convention this weekend was scheduled to reconsider the dairy issue, too,

Did Bernier really have to quit — and devastate the Conservatives' election chances, by announcing his plans to start a rival party?

And isn’t handling troublesome MPs just part of the job for Andrew Scheer, and any party leader?

But what shocked me the most today was when Bernier said that Scheer hadn’t even talked to him in nine days.

Bernier has been signalling his discontent for weeks; he has been making provocative policy statements; he got into public quarrels with other Conservative MPs.

And Scheer just watched passively — not even a phone call, let alone a face-to-face meeting?

On my TV show last night, I gave Scheer my unsolicited advice on how to handle Bernier. It’s too late now.

The party is in disarray. I sense that Scheer and his staff might be celebrating though — Bernier is no longer an internal rival to Scheer. That’s true — but Scheer now leads a smaller party, that’s demoralized and divided internally.

And if Bernier really does start his new party, it will probably split the vote enough to guarantee Justin Trudeau’s reelection.

Stephen Harper united the right. Andrew Scheer and Maxime Bernier just divided it.

It’s a disaster for every Canadian conservative who was counting on them to work things out like grown-ups, and win the election.

I just landed in Halifax to report on the convention — even though Scheer has banned The Rebel. We’re going to cover this disaster fairly and honestly — unlike the CBC, who Scheer invited into the convention itself.

The Media Party can’t contain their glee — they believe that not only did Scheer just lose the next election, but all of the ideas that Bernier was proposing have lost, too.

It sure seems that way right now — the party has just snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

There are admirable qualities about both Andrew Scheer and Maxime Bernier. But the fact that they are still quarrelling 15 months after the leadership contest is something they both should be embarrassed about. And the fact that they both just gave the next election to Justin Trudeau is inexcusable.

I know one thing: our role at the Rebel — the only truly conservative media outlet in Canada — just got more important than ever.

I promise you that we will continue to hold Justin Trudeau to account, and promote true conservative ideas, no matter what Ottawa politicians say or do.

In fact, I think we’re in a bigger, tougher fight than ever, thanks to today’s disaster.

And I hope you’ll help us continue to bring you the facts. VISIT LetUsReport.com to see how you can help bring Canadians the other side of the story here at the Conservative Party convention.

I apologize Deborah for my mistype earlier. It was Deborah not Liza that made the comment of “something smells like rotten fish”. Once again my apologies.

Of course, I meant ‘+ Canada destroyed’.

But you get the idea. For pete’s sake, LEARN FROM HISTORY SO AS NOT TO REPEAT IT!

“I am predicting the new party will win the election.” – Maxime Bernier

I am predicting the new party will win Trudeau the election. Just as it won Chretien the 1990’s elections, just as it won Rachel Notley the last election in Alberta.

Very simple formula: divided conservative vote = leftard win at the polls – Canada destroyed.

Don’t fall for this, folks, it is a loser every time. It might feel good before the election, but it will feel really bad after the election.

WANT TO WIN THE NEXT ELECTION? ONE CONSERVATIVE PARTY!

“Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer” Tragically, Ezra, I think you’re right on this one. This is an evolving wreck!

In the link I posted, Bernier says he made his decision after a conversion with Scheer nine days ago. I gather it wasn’t too fruitful.

“The goal is to start a new party

When questioned by reporters about his future plans, the Quebec MP claimed he intends on keeping his seat in parliament and will be announcing the launch of a new party in the upcoming few weeks.

“The goal is to start a new party,” said Maxime Bernier “I am starting that conversation right now”.

Bernier announced that he made the decision to start a new party after “discussion with Andrew Scheer nine days ago”.

“It was not only the one conversation” that made him leave according to Bernier.

“I am predicting that the new party will win the election” said Maxime Bernier before ending questions with reporters."

Ted Tadright,

What are you talking about? Wynne was going to lose no matter what. A dog would have beaten her in that election. She was horrible, so no – Doug Ford didn’t score some major victory – he beat someone who was going to lose anyway even if Patrick Brown was leader.
;;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;
A dog could of beat her or not the NDP and the Liberals had a date with destiny to get their asses kicked… They got their asses kicked now all the hypocrites are claiming things and victories that are not rightfully theirs..
Doug beat her with a platform based on normalcy and decent human values and respectable power rates even cheap beer… Let the market decide for the cheap beer but for the every day things including the safety of their children’s minds that’s what got Doug Ford elected.

Ted… As Mr. Bernie has already stated the CPC is corrupt beyond repair
commented 2018-08-24 14:35:28 -0400
Now we disagree..
Mr. Bernier has a year to convince the conservative people, the main stream people and the normal People that his is the way to go.
I have to agree with the girls… All of a sudden the fascist support swings to the goof Andy.!!

ANDREW SCHEER, YOU FAILED TO REACH OUT TO MAXIME BERNIER AND UNITE THE CPC PARTY! YOU HAVE PRECIPITATED DIVISION INSTEAD OF UNITY IN THE CPC! NOW THE CPC IS IN CRISIS WITH A POSSIBLE SPLIT IN THE CONSERVATIVE VOTE IN 2019! YOU MUST RESIGN FOR THE GOOD OF THE CPC AND FOR THE GOOD OF CANADA! RESIGN NOW!

CPC CONVENTION! DOUG FORD! DEMAND A NEW LEADERSHIP CONTEST! FOR CANADA’S SAKE!

‘Sonny’, we already identified you as a white-hating racist, so work on your own racism. Being the total race hypocrite that you are, you have no credibility in calling anyone else a racist or bigot or anything else. Just like that hypocrite PM that is taking Canada down the road to hell. You’re the same ilk.

‘Flatwater’, here is where I have to say that starting a new party and splitting the conservative vote is not the way to go; it will only put Liberal candidates over the top in a majority of ridings all over the country. If Bernier is to lead a conservative party it must be the CPC. We have to get a NEW LEADERSHIP CONTEST IN THE CPC! Bernier now has a very good chance of winning that contest. But it has to be ONE PARTY TO TAKE ON THE LIBERALS OR WE LOSE!

Sonny, nope they are not Liberal but they are completely misreading the mood of the Conservative electorate.

CPC CONVENTION! ANDREW SCHEER HAS FAILED TO MAINTAIN PARTY UNITY AND HAS THEREFORE FAILED AS LEADER OF THE CPC! DEMAND A NEW LEADERSHIP CONTEST NOW! FOR CANADA’S SAKE! THE ALTERNATIVE IS A SPLIT CONSERVATIVE VOTE AND A NEW TRUDEAU MAJORITY! ACT NOW OR LOSE IN 2019!
commented 2018-08-24 14:06:27 -0400
As Bernier said the party is corrupt and intellectually it’s suffering and as well it takes bad advice from the mainstream media… I think Max is a breath of fresh air. Hopefully people are smart enough to not vote for anything but the party that represents and reflect their views the best.!!
commented 2018-08-24 14:03:28 -0400
No Harper and ford RCPC members and will not go against the party… Ford won’t lose any votes over what he said providing he cleans up his own province and brings back cheap power and fixes a lot of other things, however Harper is becoming unpopular for poking his nose where didn’t belong and should keep his mouth shut .
commented 2018-08-24 14:00:44 -0400
Ezera… Bernier had to quit… If Andrew never talk to him for nine days why not make it 10 11 or 12 or 13 or maybe he’s just going to fire him at the convention in front of everybody to make an example out of him if you disagree with Andrew. Mr. Bernier beat him to the punch and quit and Andrew’s pissy about that… Bernier was right to do what he did. he left on his own terms and he wasn’t “fired”
commented 2018-08-24 13:55:03 -0400
Ted once again you’re right…Somebody should stand up and say the CPC needs a new leader… But it appears that the entire party from the top down is so corrupt and ready to replace trudeau’s agenda with an identical one that they just toe the party line when told to.
commented 2018-08-24 13:54:05 -0400
The way to beat Trudeau is to get out to the people of Canada and inform them of what our Feminist groper is really doing behind our backs. The MSM is so corrupt, that you can smell the stench where ever you go. If Maxime can pull a party together, and take it to the people, he can beat that traitor and his globalist gang, hands down! Make no mistake, this is a fight for Canada and our way of life!
commented 2018-08-24 13:49:04 -0400
Andrew before you go speak in this drivel that nobody can respect you for I think you should look at Mr. Bruyne his website… I think you should listen to him being quoted for his comments on immigration and diversity… Why do you continually make this shit up and spin it..
commented 2018-08-24 13:47:58 -0400
‘Sonny’ has zero credibility on this site. His only objective is leftard government that will destroy Canada.

Doug Ford became Premier of Ontario as a result of an inadequate leader being booted and a new leadership contest being held. The PC’s likely would have lost otherwise. So Ford should get on board and support a new leadership contest in the federal CPC for the same reason! Scheer has failed as CPC leader, and Trudeau is the only beneficiary. He must be replace ASAP!

Keith Barnes.. I would vote for a man that would get us out of the UN and rid the country of the parasitic entity that sucks away at our life blood and hates us.!! That is a hell of a good place to start… He’s also not real big on supply management either. I know he would negotiate us into a state of prosperity with Trump as he understands how important our largest trading partner, neighbour and Ally is to the country.. this country would be launched into a state of prosperity, he has only spoken to three things on his website but those three things eclipse anything that the CPC’s have going on right now.. I suggest all people considering Andrew sheer and his indistinguishable platform from that of Justin Trudeau’s should have a look at Mr. Bernier. He is a rebel away from the political status quo.

Keith Barnes:
“Running on the the agenda of; ‘LEAVE THE UN AND RID CANADA OF ALL MUSLIMS’. Nothing else, what you see is what you get. "

Here’s Bernier’s thoughs on the matter
“We must have more economic immigrants – right now 60% of our immigrants are economic immigrants, and I want to increase that to 65-70%”

“I don’t want to please special interest groups. I won’t do anything for the Jewish people, I won’t do anything for the Catholic people.

And actually, I might add, in 1867 when this country had been built, the first census that was conducted showed that we had Muslim people in Canada. I think we had a 100,000 or something like that – I don’t remember the numbers. But the Muslim community is a part of this country. Muslims, like other communities helped build this country."

“But the most interesting thing is that the increase in the last couple of years of crimes against Muslims went from 5% (I don’t have the numbers) to 15% (something like that). A huge increase. The increase is a bad trend. The goal would be to fight that for every religion/faith.”

The conservative party executives need to scrutinized. There are traitors in our midst who wanted Scheer, the lame duck in power. They should all be audited because this whole thing smells like rotten fish!

Sonny, of course a leftist like you would be fine with Scheer because he is as much a Liberal as Trudeau. That is why Scheer will not win pretending he is conservative.
