I’m about to tell you a story that should make you wonder the next time someone tries to shut down a debate by yelling “It’s peer-reviewed!”
I’ll show how two academics, fed up with the garbage being presented as academic thought in gender studies programs, proved that field of study to be a sham while simultaneously demonstrating how bad the peer-review process is.
Peter Boghossian, a philosophy professor at Portland State University and James Lindsay, a mathematician and author, wrote an incomprehensible paper full of nonsense entitled, “The Conceptual Penis as a Social Construct”, and got it published.
Believe it or not, part of the conclusion of the “peer-reviewed” paper, published in two different journals and in the journal Cogent Social Sciences, was that penises cause climate change.
Cogent Social Sciences has taken the paper down, but fortunately the whole thing has been archived online to show how ridiculous it all is.
But these journals continue to operate and the authors published in these types of journals get to claim peer-reviewed.
I’ve ripped apart papers published in key journals before and will do it again, and I don’t mean the hoax papers, but it’s clear that academia is becoming a caricature of itself and the journals are being exposed as an industry.
So next time you’re fed a load of crap that comes with the peer-reviewed tag, tell people about how they tried to label the penis as a social construct.
That should shut down the other side’s argument.
