#CPC16: Are today’s Conservative Party youth interested in power, or ideals?

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

The last time I was at an event like this in Vancouver, it was the Reform Party convention. Twenty years later, I'm covering the Conservative Party convention for, and reflecting on the other changes between now and then.

Back then we conservatives were in opposition. That meant we could be fired up with ideals and ambitions for the future.

Today, the Conservatives are back in opposition after almost 10 years in power. How do young conservative activists feel about this reversal of fortune?

Ezra writes " How do young conservative activists feel about this reversal of fortune? " . Although I agree that Conservatives (and conservatives) need to become more engaged and better adept at explaining our positions, I personally do not agree with describing it as activism or being an activist.
The activists we all know are generally if not exclusively far left of centre or extremely liberal in their values and goals. More often than not, activists strive to stop something or smash something apart.
This type of activity has been effective for the left. But that isn’t who we are as conservatives. Should we be using a word that would stigmatize us or describe us in the same vein as THEM?
We should be the opposite because we are opposite of who and what they are.
That is why I think we should describe ourselves as “proactivists” . Being proactive is everything we are or should be in my estimation. Building things as opposed to breaking things apart. Striving for real true success of the individual which en mass makes the society and culture stronger ,as opposed to the dream world the Liberals wish to impose on Canada.
In “The Seven Habits of Successful People” , the late writer Stephen Covey’s first habit was “BE PROACTIVE” . This is who and what we should be , if we plan to take back our Canada.
Why would we want to adopt and use the lexicon of the left? I say we should use words and vocabulary that tells our story and forget about “activism” . BE PROACTIVE.

“Alberta was always Conservative…now its insane…like I say..go Trump go :) "

Trump isn’t a conservative either. Lifelong Democrat, until two years ago, a vocal left winger. Very socially liberal, and economically, all over the place but more left than right. Close personal friends with the Clintons and other establishment Democrats. Cruz was the only actual conservative (as I suspect most commenters around here define that) in the race, and is gone.

The big issue for the youth, is to be able to be conservative with no stigma.

Michael “Gordo Steele” Mann, you prove time and again, you are the negligible demographic, absolutely no doubt about it. You are negligible on so many levels, but primarily in intelligence.

the youth of today are so indoctrinated by society and our total left ideology in the education system they can never be considered conservatives as we see with all their protesting of oil sands , resources ,dams and pipelines, they are taught in the schools to hate anything associated with resource extraction, that is a liberal and ndp platform, just look at who voted in turdo .

“Keith Richards commented 4 hours ago
A large scale global financial collapse should wake the youth up. "

Already had one of those, the aftermath is still reverberating. In fact, the ongoing lack of opportunity for youth is one of the things that got Harper turfed.

Keith Barnes
Rather that teachers be subjected to standardized testing with the scores and test questions posted afterwards in public for all to see. At least that would put the power back in the hands of citizens to choose.

Conservative youth is a negligible demographic.

Well, with a new voting system, why bother?

Speaking as a boomer, one must remember that the millennials are not all low information university and college students.

The majority of the Afghanistan War veterans are millennials. Blue collar labourers, due to the physical nature of the work, along with trade apprentices and new journeymen are millennials. Those that are obtaining a real education in tech and trade schools are millennials. And so on. These are high information, competent people with a work ethic.

So don’t let the narrative of the regressive MSM carry you, the majority of millennials are of this sort and not the ignorant, incompetent, lazy millennials we often think of such as the trolls on this site.

with the low information the young people want ( and its all they can be bothered with ) they will vote Liberal and when the voting system is changed in favor of the liberals you will never see a conservative leader again
