Last week in Winnipeg, there was an all-candidates moderated by a left-wing activist named Dan Lett.
After the event, Lett wrote a piece in the Winnipeg Free Press, attacking the Conservative candidate Joyce Bateman.
He claimed Bateman had read out "an enemies of Israel list," which included Liberal Party members and candidates along with a retired Canadian Forces general.
The Media Party went berserk. Trudeau's ghostwriter Jonathan Kay called it "jaw-dropping disgusting." The story went around the world.
I thought the whole story seemed fishy, so I found CBC's videotape of the event. It was pretty easy to do, actually.
Watch to see what I discovered. It's pretty damning.

READ The Enemy Within: Terror, Lies, and the Whitewashing of Omar Khadr, Ezra Levant’s new book about domestic terrorism and radicalization.
Well, I agree that in addition to being hypocritical, Ezra’s post is utterly trivial. But I’m responding to the issue he saw fit to raise.
“Terry Ruden, so what if he uses quotes? "
No problem at all with a writer using quotes, Drew.
However, this essay by Ezra is about what it means to use quotes. And Ezra explains in this essay that when you use quotation marks, it’s because you’re quoting what somebody else said, literally.
Now, the media to whom he refers in the essay use quotation marks to suggest that the phrase “enemies of Israel” list was used by the speaker. That’s what this whole essay is about: the speaker didn’t actually USE those words, but the spurious used of quotation marks suggest that she did.
Ezra says that’s a bad thing, and he calls it lying.
However, Ezra does precisely the same thing – puts quotation marks around his own statement – to suggest that someone else said them, and thus make them sound more authoritative. I provided several examples.
So again, when you ask “so what if he uses quotes” – no problem with using quotes. However, pretending that you’re quoting someone when you’re not is dishonest, and accusing others of doing while you do the same thing yourself is hypocritical. Hope that explanation helps.
Look at his comment to Glenn. ALWAYS he defaults to . . oh, you don’t understand!! Avoiding having to answer and implying Glenn is an idiot. But hopefully the other (idiots) on here will get it!!!!!
Yeah sorry Rude, that stupid psychology doesn’t fly around here!!
The real point is that the Lefty media “gave an impression”, and we all know that that’s all that really counts, particularly in light of their shallowness and Harper Derangement Syndrome! Yes John, I used quotes to “emphasize something”. The other part of the story is how they all reacted as soon as she started to bring up their anti-Israel record. Shouting her down like a bunch of banshees. Is that acceptable to you? It’s what the Lefty’s do at universities now to suppress conservative speakers. Is that acceptable to you? The left want to “control the conversation”, and will resort to the most barbaric of tactics to do it. Is that acceptable to you John? Is it acceptable to you that the media be so partisan to play-up the impression he sought to create?
Maybe you’ve gotten so used to the media being partisan, you actually think it’s ok? Watching the journalist awards on CPAC earlier this year, the gal that won got little applause, for stating that journalists have no business giving opinions, but are there to “report the facts”. How about that? Would that be ok?
“Or maybe you just have a condition that bad use of grammar drives you crazy. "
LOL. Kevin, the use of quotation marks was the ENTIRE POINT of Ezra’s argument.
Every one knows, well everyone who isn’t a robot-programmed lefty/liberal/progressive knows that the lefty/liberal/progressive Media Party lies all the time. They spin, misinform, twist, commit the sin of omission, connive and collude, censor and LIE all the time to promote their Marxist ideology. Even when they’re caught red handed at it like a sneak-thief in the night, they deny it, rationalize it and/or are silent about it – like that RED STAR reporter Ezra caught red-handed at it…
Prime Minister Harper, you’d better win this election and secure another majority and then you’d better start kicking some treasonous and degenerate commie Media Party butt! Starting with the IMMEDIATE SHUT DOWN OF THE CBC and arrest of the ring leaders there!
OR ELSE…
Or else cause and effect…there will be revolution and rioting in the streets in Canada, more than just angry talk of secession, there will be a whole whack ‘o pissed-off Canadians wanting our country back – and this message goes doubly for the socialists and communists who may get into office…
I’d say it’s more important than ever for our battered community of conservative minded folk to have a voice that can be heard above the din of the Media Party lies, it’s more important than ever to BUILD THAT DREAM!
If you don’t do it – who will?
The grammar and just simply attacking the reporter, but almost never does Terry, Jimmy or any of the other lefies on this site address the topic that the reporter is exposing, the real meat of the report / article.
This is a common tactic of the lefties, divert the conversation on the thread to something completely meaningless and never discuss the true topic of the article. Attack the reporter for bad grammar, or a bad hair day, or whatever, but never address the actual topic at hand. Leftie troll tactics, page 1.
“I think that’s the real story, not where some boob puts his stupid quotation marks. What a bunch of hair splitting crap.”
You do realize that’s how Ezra chose to frame the story, right?
Who is Ezra “quoting” when he puts quotation marks around the phrase “Dan Lett told a lie” in the headline of his story about how dishonest it is to put quotation marks around things to imply that someone else said it, and not yourself?
Why, himself, of course.
Shrug. It was a pretty basic point. I’ll put it even more simply.
a) Ezra’s entire point is that quotation marks were used to give false authority to a statement by implying it was a direct quote.
b) Ezra continually uses quotation marks to give false authority to his own statements; multiple examples provided.
I take your comment to mean you don’t care, and that’s your right, and your problem.
Okay, so now prove that every time those quotes were used by the many reporters that they were used as “scare quotes” and not to quote someone. And if you cannot prove it, then what is to say your understanding that the many reporters used the quotes as “scare quotes”?
You see the difficulty here, don’t you? You claim the quotes were used in one way, but cannot back up your point, but you claim with certainty that Ezra’s understanding that the quotes were used as, well, to quote someone’s words is wrong.
What makes you right and Ezra wrong, John Galt?
This is called gas Lighting!
We have heard your objections…..too bad so sad……now go find the Marquis of Queensburry and complain bitterly…..we have now shifted to old fashioned “London Dock Rules Irish Brawling” ….which was a legitamit sporting event in Austrailia right up until WW1….
