“First Man”: A conservative Hollywood insider's surprising perspective

When news broke that the new movie about the moon landing, First Man, wouldn't include the iconic image of Neil Armstrong planting an American flag on the moon, I announced my intention to boycott the film on Twitter.

This led to a conversation with a Hollywood insider I know. I'm maintaining his anonymity, but he told me something that surprised me...

What didn't surprise me was the reaction from the second man on the moon, Buzz Aldrin...

I’m going to give the movie a pass. If the producers think it essential to remove the flag planting scene, I’m not interested in seeing what else has been twisted in the story. I also don’t think it was right to portray Neil Armstrong as a liberal progressive, or for Ryan Gosling to say he believes Neil Armstrong didn’t think much of patriotism. OK… Let’s not be naive about this… If Hollywood producers want to blow millions producing “political theatre creations” then let them… In this case historical evidence is being “spun” for some brotherhood of man purpose… Keep spending Hollywood, because next spring’s Oscars will once again demonstrate you are becoming less and less relevant… And I’m wondering how much more NFL team owners are going to be willing to let their noses keep getting bloodied by this “take a knee” bullshit…
