“Ready Player One”: Spielberg's nostalgia trip is loud, fun — but shallow

Ben DaviesRebel Host | Rebel Reel Reviews

Steven Spielberg's new movie Ready Player One lets the studio behind the picture throw all their intellectual property — from King Kong to the Iron Giant — into a fast-paced exercise in glossy CGI and pop culture nostalgia.

But once you get over the thrill of seeing all these familiar characters pop up and fight it out, is there anything more to this movie?

Spielberg also sticks in some obligatory, on-the-nose "messages" about "evil corporations" — but I don't think he thought these messages through to their obvious conclusion...

It sounds like he tried to merge 2 movies into one & fit it into the resulting limited time.
