Maybe you've read Toronto Star columnist Catherine Porter’s account of my encounter with her and her daughter at Sunday's Queen’s Park protest. The trouble is, the central facts of Porter's story are not accurate. And we have the video to prove it.
Porter writes that her 9-year-old daughter Lyla saw me "belittling" someone about global warming, and that Lyla "was preparing to brawl with Levant" and that we had a "fight".
But that’s just not true.
Porter tried to set up some sort of teachable moment between her daughter and me, but it just didn’t happen.
So she made up the facts she wanted.
It doesn’t really matter to me – I’ve had worse things said about me, by better people.
As I said in my earlier report, I had a great time at the protest. I met a lot of colourful people. I had some lively debates. But no fights or brawls.
I met some really weird people, to be sure.
But to be honest, the weirdest person I met was Catherine Porter, who demanded I talk to her young daughter, and then told a tall tale about it in the newspaper.
PS: Here's the shorter "highlight reel" of my conversation with Porter and her daughter:
UPDATE: On July 17, the Toronto Star's Public Editor, Kathy English, wrote a full-page piece in the paper, acknowledging errors in Porter's report:
UPDATE: On July 22, Catherine Porter's "apology" to me appeared in the Toronto Star.
I wasn't impressed:

Ms. Porter doesn’t know where to buy hemp clothing? Maybe she should have 9yr old Lyla help her with the interwebz searchy thingy.
You can say that again. Moral vanity, or preening as Ezra called it, regurgitating suzuki, nye, moore and gore sound bites, with no real thought, or information. Just imagine if they had to admit they have been duped? That’s why they hold onto the lie so tightly. Tara you’re right, Mom didn’t think that out too well. She should have spared her kid, but she was wholly responsible for the interaction with Ezra. Then Mom made a bad situation worse by not telling it the way it really went down. Porter’s article won’t go far to furthering her employment or credibility.
Here’s a great way for THE REBEL to make a few extra bucks. The next time they hold climate day, show up with some hemp T shits you could cow them into buying them at $50 each you know how gullible they are might as well take some of their money.
They are a loony bunch but they are good for a laugh.
