After months of kicking the can down the road, the Liberals have finally announced their plan to cram a carbon tax down the throats of provinces that are opposed to one.
Their new scheme will force retailers to charge a carbon price to consumers in provinces that haven’t brought in their own carbon tax, or that don’t have a sufficiently whopping carbon tax, in what the Liberals call a “regulatory price on fuel.”
The new tax will be levied on gasoline, light fuel oil, natural gas, and propane — basically all the fossil fuels you need to stay alive.
And the Liberals have a formula for their carbon tax that they cribbed from Alberta premier Rachel Notley: Rebates!
Despite Notley’s rebates, the carbon tax remains universally disliked and consistently polls at around thirty per cent approval from the general public.
Albertans are smart enough to see through the bribe, and Canadians will too.
Watch as I show you the other times Trudeau followed Notley’s lead to very expensive consequences.
The federal Liberal plan to override the will of the provinces is a strangely timed move considering that more provinces are moving to the political right and away from increased taxes.
Trudeau has now damned himself to campaign on imposing a carbon tax on people who don't want one - now the majority of the country.
Even Notley wasn't tone deaf enough to do that.
