Why is the NDP obsessed with universal childcare when Canadians don't want it?

Brian LilleyArchive

Again and again, Canadians have rejected the concept of universal government child care.

Not all families want to put their children into daycare. Some prefer to be stay at home parents.

The NDP, however, seem determined to get all Canadian children into child care.

It seems to me like another "beer and popcorn" moment.

Why should taxpayers have to foot the bill for the expenses of other people’s children? If anyone brings a child into this world then they are the ones who are responsible for it, not anyone else. There are too many parents out there who want it all but aren’t willing to sacrifice to get it. I know plenty of people who forgo having children until they feel they are both mature and stable enough to handle that serious responsibility. Unfortunately, there seems to be too many people who think otherwise.

You asked why at the top of this skit. I will tell you why. The Liberals and the NDP only want to grow the size of government and take control of your children. They need to do this at a very young age, to start the indoctrination of the next generation to become brainwashed into how this government wants them to think. Anyone that puts their child into a government subsidy child care are being lead away as the sheep they are. Ask yourself just this question before putting your child into the hands of government. Who do you think will be paying for it? That’s right you will be. If you think your taxes are high now, wait till this scam is implemented. As the old saying goes, "You haven’t seen anything yet! "

The NDP is obsessed with universal child care because they are helping to establish a new economic system that benefits unions, not families. As the economic tide changes, unions have seen a loss in jobs in the once-strong manufacturing sector and a loss in corresponding union dues. Fewer union dues mean fewer union donations to the NDP. To prop up their funds, unions have been pushing their way into sectors that have not previously been union-held and the NDP has supported them. Unions have focused on creating union jobs in the care sector, namely child care, a sector that has traditionally been carried out as unpaid labour within a family. Unions are doing this by financing and supporting initiatives to create universal child care in Canada and by financially supporting the NDP. When parents are asked what type of care they would prefer for their children, the majority would prefer to be able to care for their own children at home. Sending billions of dollars to the child care industry and its union-jobs does not directly help families. The money could instead be given to families who would choose the best type of care that works for their particular situation. Would the NDP claim that families would waste the money on “beer and popcorn”? It’s clear that the NDP does not have the best interest of Canadian families in mind when they push for universal child care, they have the best interest of their bank accounts in mind.

On a side bar, did you know that the original expression was Latin and was “a dog does not eat a dog”, which is correct, because they don’t—at least I have never heard of one, although I have heard of and seen remains of coyotes after being eaten by other coyotes. Through the ages, starting in the 1700s the English lost the “does not”. But just think how mortified dog owners would be if dogs DID eat dogs, as “it’s a dog eat dog world”. :-)

Many kids went from cuddling and bonding with a parent one day to sitting in hard seats in an institution with a bottle propped up in a metal holder the next. Day care makes kids angry and insensitive. They’re “dog eat dog” institutions where survival of the fittest reigns and love is completely absent. Day care is one of the main reasons our society is in such a mess. The NDP wants day care so they have an excuse to tax us more for social programs to fix the damage caused to society by people raised in day care.

Why? Very simple,,once Universal Daycare is the law of the land, the next step is to unionize all the workers that in turn will fill the coffers of the NDP and ensure their relevance.

Joan, with all due respect, my predecessors were Vikings. Despite that, I try to keep my invasions, rapings and pilllagings to a bare minimum. It matters not what you were but rather what you are. If the allegations concerning Flaherty are true then the man was a pig. I don’t care what party he represented.

I just can’t imagine it Ron, but I will have to take your word for it, maybe.

Joan and Liza just as well you weren’t one of the waitresses verbally abused by a string of expletives coming from the mouth of the late esteemed minister. I hold Conservatives to a higher standard of behaviour.

I agree with you Rick Sloan — people who have children ought to raise them, whether that means by the parents themselves or by family members or friends. Not by unionized government-paid with-benefits people who may or may not have two-cents worth of intellectual value or principles. Besides, in day-care environments children learn that peer recognition is better than whatever the parent’s values can possibly teach. So the future, with daycare-raised adults, will consist of non-dissenters who look to their neighbours’ approval before making decisions or standing up for… anything. Goodbye conservatives and Hello socialists. However, if the census is correct, immigrants are populating Canada because Canadians aren’t replenishing the ranks, either too tired making money, too educated, or too busy spending money on personal treats to have any left over for children, who are, by the way, getting more expensive everyday, due again to the must-follow-the-neighbour trend and registering the child in every possible activity, driving around… ugh. Tires me out just to think about it. While the immigrant, having left difficulties behind wants to make more babies to ensure a community of people with the same traditions. So, in this vein, if having universal daycare available paves the way for Canadians to make more Canadians and thus ensure that traditional values survive, yes Christian and Jewish and o.k. with the Chinese and Japanese, as well as any other group that doesn’t want to stand out as not being a REAL Canadian, speaking English and French, with heterosexual habits and values, maybe Mulcair’s idea has merit.

Can you imagine saying that on a cbc comment page, for example, I mean really!!

Joan you are really making me chuckle. I hate the c word more than words can express. Just imagining it meeting my ear drums gives me hives. However you are absolutely correct. I don’t want to mess with what you said it was well said., regarding the Irish. And Martin Luther King , for all his greatness was indeed a womaniser. That can never be disputed.
commented 2015-04-04 23:24:38 -0400
Joan, good for you. And right you are.
commented 2015-04-04 22:40:35 -0400
Ron Zager, Martin Luther King was a great orator who led a great civil rights movement but he was also a shameless womanizer.

I suspect Mr. Flaherty’s manner was the product of his Irish herotage more than of a coarseness of spirit

In Ireland, the “C” word – which I fear if I spelled it out here, you’d all have my head – is as common a descriptor of a woman as is colleen. Shocking here but not there.

Are we sure Tom isn’t surreptitiously working for the Conservative Party of Canada? He will guarantee parents in Ontario vote Conservative because Ontario parents have had it up to here with government indoctrination of their children.

Universal child care is a hallmark of the modern socialist state. Its goal is to expose children as young as possible to socialist prapaganda, to shape them all to be the same, to not think for themselves, and to accept corruption of our freedom, democracy, rule of law and human rights without question. To raise a society without conscience.
commented 2015-04-04 22:16:24 -0400
That, and the people who vote NDP think money grows on trees, and another free thing is good, because its like free, right? And everyone should have it because its their right, right?
And it then follows that we have given over a generation of children to the government.

Why is the NDP obsessed with universal childcare? Because they are completely bereft of new ideas and constantly fall back on the tried and true socialist policy planks.

DAN MANCUSO and VALERIE CLARK, I think you have nailed it. The earlier the better, fits with the more effective, state social engineering that a “more government” socialist states desires. So, hardly surprising that the NDP is pushing for this.

Could it have anything to do with what St. Francis Xavier said, “Give me the child until he is seven and I’ll give you the man”., or maybe what Hitler said in 1933, ‘If I can separate the youth of Germany from their parents I will conquer this nation’

Dale Warren – You’re right.
The First Rule of Socialism – Control the minds of young children and within 20 years, you’ll control everything and everyone. That’s why the NDP wants this.

PETER they have Peter Kent for one in the party. Master of spin and lies from his TV days. Too many people like him in the party. I met the late Mr. Flaherty at a small dinner function. He was a foul mouthed man who made humiliating jokes about women. Perhaps Mr. Kent has changed and Mr. Flaherty before he died but those memories are indelible. My local Conservative MP where I used to live beat his wife. So as a result I see no difference between the Conservative members and the foul mouthed ignorant loons from the Liberals and NDP. Obviously Mr. Lunney was the exception.

How does “Universal” Daycare help Rural Families or Families in Small Towns?
Are rural parents supposed to drive their kids to the City before heading the opposite way to work?
If Parents choose to stay home to teach their children their values, are they supposed to still pay taxes that only help out the other people who choose to turn their kids into obedient Atheist, Marxist slaves?

Ron, you keep saying that you are no fan of the Conservatives yet you appreciate much of what they do and seem to dislike the NDP and Liberals, so I was just wondering what it is you do not like about the Conservatives. I am just curious, not looking for an argument or anything.

Mr. Harper’s universal child tax credit has helped many young single mums who refused the abortion route. I believe the amount is being increased. I am no fan of the Conservative Party but thank you Mr. Harper. Thank you young mums for refusing the abortion.

The NDP wants to bring in a universal daycare program based on the Quebec model. Well, I would advise him to do more research into the Quebec model. Premier Couillard is upping the fees parents pay (maybe to $20 per day) because the present fee structure is unsustainable. The program is running a deficit of $3.1 B in 2014-15, and this could quadruple by 2016 if costs are not reined in. And this is only for 223,000 spaces! And, as Mr. Couillard himself stated, this is NOT a universal program in Quebec!) What is the estimated cost for a national program with a population of 5 to 6 million children under age 14?

Why is the NDP so set on implementing a national daycare service? Any or all of these choices: 1) fits with socialist policies that government knows best 2) adds another layer of bureaucracy to government to operate a national program 3) workers hired will be unionized which fits socialist policy 4) indoctrination of children. I am sure commenters can provide a host of other reasons.

Mr. Harper’s universal child tax credit is by far the best option.
