A moment of silence for 9/11 victims is offensive to Muslims say University students

StaffRebel Columnist

University students voted against a moment of silence for the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks because it would apparently cause “Islamophobia.”

According to The Daily Beast, students at the University of Minnesota killed a proposed moment of silence for 9/11 victims.

Theo Menon, a Minnesota Student Association representative and member of the College Republicans, submitted the proposed moment after leaning that the school did nothing to honour the victims.

His proposed “moment of recognition” on future 9/11s was met with controversy by MSA representative and Director of Diversity and Inclusion David Algadi.

The Washington Post published an email Algadi had sent raising his “concerns”.

First off, I want to say that 9/11 is and always will be a tragedy. I can recognize that. But I think that we need to permit ourselves to dig deeper than just this.

9/11 is often used as reasoning for Islamophobia that takes both physical and verbal forms. The passing of this resolution might make a space that is unsafe for students on campus even more unsafe. Islamophobia and racism … are alive and well. I just don’t think that we can act like something like a moment of silence for 9/11 would exist in a vacuum when worldwide, Muslim and Middle Eastern folks undergo intense acts of terrorism around the 11th of September each year, and have since 2001.

Algadi was not alone and a majority of student leaders voted with him 36-23 against a moment of silence for 9/11 victims.

Luckily, someone with common sense (and more power) decided to formalize a moment of silence anyway. That person being UNM President Eric Kaler.

Regardless the fact remains that university students voted against respecting the victims of 9/11 out of fear that Muslims would be 'unsafe'.

That's worse than banning yoga because people could be offended by “cultural appropriation”.

There were many nationalities, religions and ethnicities affected by 9/11. It is not inappropriate to respect and have a moment of silence for the fallen.

They’ll push this ideology too far and it will end up backfiring on them. It’s already starting to happen with Antifa. There’s a limit to how much madness the ordinary person can tolerate.

Remembering the tragedy of 9/11 with a moment of silence is the honourable thing to do. For those offended by it, ask yourself why. Be honest, then; realize it’s not all about you!

We as North Americans need to stand strong against the Tyranny of the Islamic extremism.
A moment of silence must be observed.

Those who are against it do to fear of reprisals are being very foolish. Terrorist will kill you regardless of whether you choose to respect those that perished in 911 or not. By not recognizing a moment of silence you are giving into the terrorist. It is not Islamaphobic it is your patriotic & moral duty.

What about the men & women who jumped from the towers? What about their families that lost their daughters; brothers; fathers?

What about the brave firemen & policemen that lost their lives trying to rescue them?

To the student that oppose this, I say grow a pair! Your grandfathers & father fought in WW1 & 2. Many died for your freedom. They set the example. Now it is our turn! Stand up for what is right and stop being such cowards. Show us what your are made of.

If you want to live in my country, come here for what it is. If you don’t like it, P&^S off ! The West needs to cease their habit of bending over for them. Don’t be offensive about it, just do what we do. If they find it offensive, tough Sh1T.

There is always that point when one side pushes too far, there’s always the backlash. Think of this as a game of chicken. At some point, these liberals are going to get run off the road by reality

What in hell’s name are those moronic students thinking?!!! Did Muslims come to North America because they wanted to be free or to conquer? If it’s to conquer, those students are doing all the legwork for them!!! What kind of insanity is that. Muslims may be offended by a moment of silence, but I’m offended by the stupidity of the students. Why would they make such an assumption. Did they even bother to ask a Muslims what they thought? And, even if they did, THEY SHOULDN’T HAVE? We shouldn’t be trashing our traditions for newcomers. Are they not coming here “because” of our traditions? Because of our freedom? Because of our high standard of life? If not, they need to turn around and go back to whence they came or do what the Jehovah’s Witnesses do. Don’t celebrate birthdays. Don’t celebrate Christmas or other religious holidays. Or, do as the Jews and Seventh Day Adventists. Worship on Saturday, if you feel that’s the true sabbath. Try proselyting like Mormons. I don’t care. Do your own thing. But, don’t start dictating what the rest of us can or can’t do! And, stop doing their bidding for them.

Linda Cayer – yes, thank God for the old stock men and women, who allowed me to grow up when Canada really was free. I will cherish my memories until I am gone from this earth! The gift of multiculturalism was from PET, and now his son will be sure to finish the job, because he is a clueless puppet. Things went off the rails, when we only allowed people from the third world in, and then by allowing minorities to start making demands, at the expense of the rights of the majority. It’s how they have undermined Canada and Canadians, and why we are now in the position that we are.

BARRY BELCOURT, with that account by the Israeli Doctor, on the one hand you have an example of civilized compassion, but, on the other hand, you have a response by someone indoctrinated by a barbarian ideology. Ideas have consequences. Bad ideas have bad consequences.

I love Canada. My roots run deep.
I am Metis and I am just as proud of my European ancestors as I am of my Native ancestors.
Both worked hard together down through the centuries, bending their backs, sweating and toiling and going off to war to fight against tyranny when called upon to do so.
Sharia Law has no place here. Our women deserve better than that. We’ve earned our right to be individuals in our own right, no small feat in a world where most women are still enslaved, mutilated and murdered.
We should be grateful to the old stock men and women who gave us the greatest of gifts, Canada.
Can you hear the Pipes and Drums.
Are their stirring your soul.?
I hope so.

Being the old fart that I am thinking back on my university days, Im trying to figure out when S/U’s became so powerful to dictate the socio-political life of universities. Back in the day when we had to walk to university uphill both ways against a North blizzard, the S/U’s did not have this sort of power to dictate university policy. The S/U’s were training grounds for politicians and for tolerance. I had a Jamaican house mate at the time of the Yom Kippur war who was the vice president for International Students of the U/Calgary S/U, and I asked how he dealt with the Muslims and Jews at the time. His answer, “I tell them they are each my friends, and I expect them to respect that friendship and each other; if not they are banned from international society functions.” Today’s no-minds would ban the one group preferentially and commiserate with the other, and have the power to enforce the one-sidedness policy though-out the campus societies. My housemate, despite being black, would be pilloried as a racist and called an oreo. What a joke Uni has become.

Both America and Canada need to get rid of Left Wing, progressive thinking, politically correct teachers, some of them Muslims, that brainwash our children, right from their junior grades. This is the root of the problem.

The MSA should be banned from making any decisions regarding student activity’s and the school curriculum. Islamic agenda conflicts with Western Civilization. Muslim Teachers and Professors should not be teaching western students, all they teach is the Dogma of Islam. Nothing more than propaganda.

Sadly Canada and the USA are in the control of Left Wing Politicians, these socialists are attracted to Islam and they love Sharia Law and it’s complete control of the population.

How far can North Americans be pushed, when will they rebel?

What happens to a dream deferred?

Dose it dry up like a Raisin in the sun?

Or fester like a sore, and then run on?

Or crust and sugar over, like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags like a heavy load.

The students are the weak link, and have been infiltrated by the UN, using the student unions, and teachers unions, for decades now.

> This is from a M.D. at Hadassah Hospital in Israel, Prof.Dr. Arieh Eldad
A very short read….> The Arab Mentality <…
It is really hard for western society to understand this kind of thinking. It is counter to civilized understanding. The
(Muslim) Arab Mentality…

> I was instrumental in establishing the Israeli National Skin Bank, which is the largest in the world. The National Skin Bank stores skin for every day needs as well as for war time or mass casualty situations. The skin bank is hosted at the Hadassah Ein Kerem University hospital in Jerusalem where I was the Chairman of plastic surgery. This is how I was asked to supply skin for an (Muslim) Arab woman from Gaza, who was hospitalized in Soroka Hospital in Beersheva, after her family burned her. Usually, such atrocities happen among (Muslim) Arab families when the women are suspected of having an affair.

> We supplied all the needed Homograft for her treatment. She was successfully treated by my friend and colleague, Prof. Lior Rosenberg and discharged to return to Gaza. She was invited for regular follow-up visits to the outpatient clinic in Beersheva.

> One day she was caught at a border crossing wearing a suicide belt. Her mission was to explode herself in the outpatient clinic of the hospital where they saved her life. It seems that her family promised her that if she did that, they would forgive her. This is only one example of the war between Jews and Muslims in the Land of Israel. It is not a territorial conflict. This is a civilizational conflict, or rather a war between civilization and barbarism. Bibi (Netanyahu) gets it, Obama does not.

> Dr. Arieh Eldad
> I have never written before asking to please forward onwards, so that as many as possible can understand radical Islam and what awaits the world if it is not stopped.

Lets face it, the only things that seem not to offend Muslims, is the beheading of Christians, the slaughter of little children who do not convert to Islam, the burning alive of soldiers, the drowning of those that do not conform, and so on.

The push back for a moment of silence came from the MSA representative and Director of Diversity and Inclusion. MSA refers to the Muslim Students Association, a Muslim Brotherhood affiliate, active in the U.S. and Canada. Of course, perfectly understandable that a Communist, true to form, would applaud their activities. Hmm, an MSA Director of Diversity and Inclusion, reminds one of leftist Chrystia Freeland in that revealing exchange with Bill Maher, extolling the virtues of “diversity”: "I think it is incredibly important, particularly now after the Paris attacks…to stand up for real diversity and say that our diversity is our strength.”

And the idiocy goes on and gets worse with each idiot student body. The key word here is ‘Student’. We are letting ‘Students’ dictate how we should think, and act. These snot nosed brats need a severe time out so they can be put back in their place.

Not surprising since according to a new Pew Research Center Poll, 40% of Millennials OK with limiting speech offensive to minorities
This represents quite a jump in popularity for the concept of State-managed speech when compared to other generations of Americans, including the immediately preceding Generation X: Around 27 percent of Generation X’ers (ages 35-50) support such an idea, while 24 percent of Baby Boomers (ages 51-69) agree that censoring offensive speech about minorities should be a government issue. Only 12 percent of the Silent Generation (ages 70-87) thinks that government should prevent offensive speech toward minorities.
Quite a plunge into Statist, totalitarian thought there, isn’t it? As well, quite a testimony to the effectiveness of the cultural Marxist’s control of our institutions of education. They understand full well that “One of the most useful tools in the quest for power is the educational system” (Herbert Schlossberg, Idols for Destruction)

I find cowards and appeasers offensive! Since when did we let being offended become an excuse for trampling on the majorities rights? If people don’t stand up, we will soon be silenced for ever.
