Let’s go back in time, to almost a year ago, when I brought you the story of high rollin’ Alberta Health bureaucrat Marilyn Smith.
It was August 2016 and took a look at Smith’s expenses, specifically her travel expenses because, as it turns out, they were right out of hand.
Smith is part of the Calgary South Mental Health Review Panel and sometimes she has to travel for work, The problem was that Smith had a taste for the good life. She would take executive town car services instead of executive coach services from her home base in Calgary to places across southern Alberta, routinely costing the taxpayer over $1000 per trip.
Between January 2015 and June 2016, “Diamond” Marilyn had spent over $50,000 on limo rides from Calgary to places like Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, and Canmore. It was crazy!.
The mainstream media finally caught up with the story a few months later. In a statement to Metro News, October 11, 2016, Health Minister Sarah Hoffman said that she didn't find the expenses appropriate and she would advise the ministry to find better ways to get around.
But guess what? I checked back in on Smith's online expense filings and I found that despite the NDP’s promises to the contrary, Alberta health bureaucrat Marilyn Smith is still ridin’ dirty.
Watch my video to see the new and outrageous ways Marilyn Smith has found to waste your tax dollars on travel since the Health Minister promised big changes.
Alberta is plagued with crowded emergency rooms, long waits for surgeries and little to no access to specialists, and the best Sarah Hoffman could do to streamline the health system is to get Marilyn Smith to downgrade from a chauffeur driven town car to a $700 taxi ride.
