The Wildrose and Progressive Conservatives are the only parties standing up for the laid off oil and gas workers looking for jobs to get back on track. A crowd that marched to the Legislature is part of a larger group of engineers, geologists, and geophysicists that are sitting at a 50% unemployment rate and are willing to be retrained.
Remember that group Iron and Earth that I told you about? If you don't, you can check out my story HERE.
This is the group that Tzeporah Berman introduced to the NDP to get them government help to retrain oil and gas workers to install solar panels.
And the laid off professionals at this rally are lining up to get those jobs because they’re desperate for work. But Wildrose MLA Prasad Panda explained to The Rebel that the Alberta government is completely stonewalling these hard up Albertans that have asked to meet with the government many times about these retraining programs.
And it’s not even that the NDP are evading questions and requests for meetings from unemployed skilled workers - they’re literally running from them. At the rally, The Rebel caught Minister of Advanced Education, Marlin Schmidt, running away from the unemployed professionals, while PC MLA Ric McIver asked him to say a few words to the crowd at the Legislature.
Caucus members from both the Wildrose Party and the Progressive Conservatives were out to listen to what these unemployed professionals had to say, including Brian Jean, leader of the official opposition. Meanwhile, the NDP are busy astroturfing seemingly genuine oil and gas workers in from outside of Alberta who haven’t even retrained one worker. So who’s side are the Alberta NDP really on?
