Alberta's NDP don't want the Chicago free speech principles to take hold on Alberta post secondary campuses.
So what are these scary Chicago principles? The way the left talks about them, they must have been written by Hitler himself.
The authoritarians in the NDP are counting on the fact that the public may not know what the principles are.
They state that:
“Although members of the University community are free to criticize and contest the views expressed on campus, and to criticize and contest speakers who are invited to express their views on campus, they may not obstruct or otherwise interfere with the freedom of others to express views they reject or even loathe. To this end, the University has a solemn responsibility not only to promote a lively and fearless freedom of debate and deliberation, but also to protect that freedom when others attempt to restrict it.”
The principles protect the rights of the speaker, the audience listening to the speaker and the faculty to express dissent and disagreement to the speaker.
Universities have become NDP factories, puking out ill-prepared intolerance snowflakes out into society like one of those snow-making machines you see at the ski resort.
But isn't that exactly what these NDP censors want: conservative parents paying a fortune to have their kids indoctrinated into future NDP voters.
Is it really any wonder that an NDP that opposes a policy to entrench a university's “responsibility to promote lively and fearless freedom of debate” would also be responsible for creating a bureaucracy called the Elections Commissioner that goes around investigating journalists for writing illegal books?
