Alberta election: Danielle Smith is back -- at least on Twitter

Marc PatroneRebel Commentator

Alberta's most famous political turncoat has inserted herself into the provincial election campaign.

Danielle Smith, the former Wildrose leader stunned supporters and opponents alike last December when she and eight of her colleagues crossed the floor to join Jim Prentice' PC party.

She later lost her bid for the PC party's nomination in the riding of Highwood but today, referring to herself as a 'free agent', fired a shot across the bow of PC leader Jim Prentice.

She tweets "I'm a free agent with dear friends in both parties. I want a PC-WRP coalition. I tried to create that but I failed."

She also writes, "...I think the divide is on fiscal issues. We needed a budget that incorporated more Wildrose ideas."

Smith's comments appeared to have caught the premier off guard and he didn't address her tweets directly.

A Wildrose spokesperson tells TheRebel.Media, Smith is more of distraction at this point but added, anyone with
conservative views will see the Prentice budget as a failed document.

Smith plans to write a book about her six years in politics.

Poor Danielle – you could have been a somebody.

Smith would do herself a favor by being quiet. No one wants to hear her. Smith, Redford, Prentice, all cut from the same cloth…don’t believe a word from any of them.

We are all use to politicians holding high ideas only to sell them out later in their career. What is unusual about Danielle is how fast she did that. From right wing conservative to milquetoast CINO in seconds. Why should a conservative party (WR) align itself with a liberal (PC) one? Especially one lead by a dirty dealer and player like Prentice?

Danielle who????

Considering how many people are furious with Danielle Smith you would have thought she would have got the message, but based on her last message, a tweet, she appears to still be sticking to her guns, or rather, her excuses.

It is good that the chaff has been cleared out and left the wheat in the Wildrose party. Better to find out her ethics now than later when it could have done even more damage.

Perhaps she can be the head of a political party on Pitcairn Island.

Into the dustbin you fraud!

Sounds like a planted statement for the PC’s to attempt holding onto power with WRP support due to poor election polls. Plant the seeds and gauge public opinion. Shallow.

It just shows how much you can trust Jim Prentice. I hope everyone besides Danielle learns from this

What was wrong with being Leader of the Official Opposition and holding the PCs to account? Wildrose forced the PCs to adopt policies they wouldn’t otherwise have adopted and Smith threw it away for the promise of a Cabinet post. I’m hoping Wildrose will either form the government or once again form a strong Official Opposition with Brian Jean at the helm. I don’t think Albertans are stupid enough to elect enough Liberals or NDPers to give those destructive parties any power!

Everyone knew Including Danielle after the bad by election losses she was not the person to take the wildrose to the next level. I agree that she should at this point just stay quiet and stay out of it . Let the new and improved wildrose party make its own way. They don’t need any help from Danielle Smith. I
Prentice is simply another Redfraud that cannot be trusted and will act on self interest and PC interest at the expense of the province and the electorate. Prentice still has a bloated government that is over paid, gold plated benefits, and entitlement is there moto.

I’m a free agent , says Danielle. I say I hope the NHL is recruiting. :)

Danielle Smith who? She must be a nobody. Irrelevant. Meaningless.

Now, Brian Jean and the Wildrose party. THAT is relevant. He has the right attitude, ignore the wisp of hot air and get on with the election! Go Wildrose!

9 rotten apples added to a barrel of rotten apples is still just a barrel of rotten apples!

Is she trying to get herself killed??? The populace made their decision clear when they did NOT support her in the by-election. Further, members of that constituency have been vocal enough that they won’t support the Tory member there, either… Smith has no business whatsoever making public comments like this. “A PC-WRP merger”… has she dyed her hair brunette? (no disrespect to those of the dark-tint-challenged persuasion) She’s certainly not operating on all cylinders, and appears to be living up to the blonde stereotype…! Whatever angle she’s operating at, it’s readily apparent that she’s operating from some dreamworld pie-in-the-sky concept, and her feet are firmly planted in mid-air… Drop it, Danielle, and get used to private life. Keep commenting, and you’re liable to face the results of your words, even more so than now…
