Alberta Premier Jim Prentice has explained why Jonathan Denis is no longer Justice Minister: Denis is involved in a personal legal matter and his continued participation in Cabinet "wouldn't be appropriate."
Except that doesn't make sense.
Elected officials get sued and divorced all the time, yet they aren't asked to resign.
According to CBC reports, though, police were called to Denis' home. That's not a normal divorce.
The case isn't open to the public and a judge has issued a publication ban. That's not normal, either.
And what a coincidence that a justice minister gets to keep all this secret when no other Albertan would get that option.
Yet Denis is still running for re-election -- lowly voters just aren't allowed to know why police came to his house.
This entire situation is simply unCanadian. Something needs to be done about it quickly, before election day.
