Alberta NDP’s Sigurdson had advance notice of layoffs -- but did nothing about it

Sheila Gunn ReidRebel Host | The Gunn Show

Group layoff numbers in Alberta have surged this past year.

Over 2015, nearly 18,000 Albertans have been part of a group layoff in Alberta. That’s nearly a 140% increase over 2014. Almost 80 % of these layoffs are related to the oil and gas sector.

How do we know?

In Alberta, "if an employer intends to terminate the employment of 50 or more employees at a single location within a four-week period, the employer must – by law – give the Minister of Jobs, Skills Training and Labour four weeks’ written notice of intention to do so. The notice must specify the number of employees whose employment will be terminated and the effective date of the terminations."

That’s straight from the Jobs Ministry website.

Now we know the Alberta government has advanced notice of mass job losses in Alberta. This information is supposed to help the government react to the economic climate, and mitigate and prevent further job losses.

What is the government doing with this valuable advance notice of layoffs? Picking fights with farmers through the farm unionization law Bill 6, running the up the biggest debt in Alberta's history, and implementing a job killing carbon tax on everything.

At the end of October, nearly 60,000 Albertans were on employment insurance, a 102% increase from last year. Active drilling rigs in the province were at 22% of Alberta's available rigs, down 53% since the year before. Of the mass job losses the government knows about, almost 80% are from oil and gas. If these jobs numbers were from the auto sector, they'd be getting a bailout. But oil and gas doesn’t want a bailout, they just want the attacks, in the form of a carbon tax, a royalty review and corporate tax hikes, to stop. Albertans need to get back to work and the job creators need the NDP to get out of the way.

Every time a company announces mass job losses Albertans should know, Jobs Minister, Lori Sigurdson knew a month in advance.

I think she needs to answer for her lack of reaction or be laid off herself.

The NDP budget is a disaster. Over 50,000 are out of work. Investment is fleeing the province.

On another note, I’m looking forward to the coming byelection that queen bee Notley has to call soon. I’m hoping it goes to WR, not the PC’s, and I don’t think the NDP will even be in the race. Though Notley will try to buy the vote their, just like she tried in Prentice’s riding, and lost by a landslide.

The NDP actions only point to one thing & that is the complete destruction of the oil & gas industry. That’s the only conclusion I can come up with. They’re ramming under the bus, those who lost their jobs in that sector & it doesn’t bother them one bit. They will not stop & continue with their anti oil policies until they have achieved their goal. Albertans have to wise up & stop Rachel Notley before everything is lost.

What do you expect them to do ?
There is only 3 NDP in their entire caucus who claim to have business experience. One ran a YOGA business and the other two were consultants. There is not a single NDP who ever had to make a payroll . They’re not qualified to run a hotdog cart much less a multi-billion dollar corporation like a province.
Their Environment Minister has environment experience limited to authoring a booklet describing how to attack the Oilsands . She is supposed to sit down with Oil & Gas people who have engineering degrees , science degrees , environmental science degrees and her only credible support is the Ministry of Environment civil servants who worked for the Conservatives for years. I guess that’s why Notley appointed her instead of Marlin Schmidt , the only NDP member with an Environmental Science degree and ten years working for the Min. of Env. specializing in soil remediation and the oil & gas industry. He’s imminently qualified but he worked for Conservative governments so Notley wasn’t going to use him.
Incompetent , inexperienced zealots is the backbone of Notley’s government.
God help us all.

It’s all protecting their own. Unions require large amounts.of money for pension, universal health care coverage even out of the country. Every time you see the Alberta Teachers Union television add remembrer that these union members voted for the NDP. The message is damage control.

No matter, Lori gets to stand at the podium and make declarations just like real cabinet ministers would do. It’s like kids day at the office here in AB.

“Clearly what is happening here is the progressive morons from Toronto have high jacked the Alberta parliament and are attempting to bankrupt the province and destroy all industry. "

Au contraire, RANDALL. Clearly what has happened is that sufficient numbers of Alberta voters liked the idea of living in a parasitic state so they voted for one.

Perhaps it’s time the people of Alberta took back their parliament. A government filled with transient help out of Toronto has no business operating another provinces day to day government. Clearly what is happening here is the progressive morons from Toronto have high jacked the Alberta parliament and are attempting to bankrupt the province and destroy all industry. The only solution is to physically remove those who do not live in Alberta and send them packing back to TO “your fired”. It is also time we started looking at Western Canada separating from Eastern Canada. We can start with removing the NDP from Manitoba this spring and move West. I’d sure like to see how our selfie PM handles a separation. Then again he’ll just show up take a bunch of selfies with a bunch of little girls which raises my other suspicions of him and some pedophiles he’s kept company with.

" They (farmers) need to up the pressure on those communists, and keep on them until they crack like eggs."

Then DEBORAH, pray that your Alberta farmers don’t have leadership like their Ontario brethren.

Sigurdson, like the Health Minister, are unhappy and discontented people; consequently uncaring of others. What they need to do is lose weight and go on an exercise diet. They will then have a better body image of themselves, be happy, contented, and caring of others.

Either that, or they are just the typical selfish socialists. In which case there is no hope for their happiness or caring for others.

The farmers need to withhold food from the system and see how long it takes to bring the NDP to their knees. They need to up the pressure on those communists, and keep on them until they crack like eggs.

The NDP are deliberately attacking rural Alberta and trying to destroy it. It’s part the war that cities are waging on rural people throughout north America. That’s what the standoff in Oregon is all about. During the Bolshevik revolution leftists came out of the cities and ransacked the rural populations, robing and plundering the countryside as they went. Little has change for the left since 1917.

What do you get when you cross an urban population with a right wing that couldn’t organize a two-man rush to a three-holer?

This is a bad situation in Alberta. Let us hope that people take note of what is happening, not just the people of Alberta but Canada wide and they learn about the evils of Socialism.

Totally qualified.
Minister of Innovation and Advanced Education and Minister of Jobs, Skills, Training and Labour in the Alberta Cabinet.
Sigurdson holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Calgary.
Too funny. But hey, it’s a Master’s Degree. You know the same one most Starbucks baristas have.

Same Sigurdson that was off to BC to help campaign for LeadNow anti pipe line federal NDP Jacqui Gingras ? This lady is a mess, and shame forever to those that elected it.

I just spent a week in the southern states. Even the Americans are questioning what is wrong with Alberta. When you say NDP, they just say that socialism doesn’t help anybody.

Not only this… NDP has been caught red-handed knowing full-well the adverse results their minimum wage scheme is having and going to have….. but do they care? Absolutely not… the scheme is moving forward.

The fact that the NDP government knows in advance any layoffs numbering over 50 and has had many since they took office but made no attempt to mitigate the damage but instead exacerbated the problem with taxes on multiple fronts is just one more proof that this NDP is not for the people, but is deliberately attacking the oil and gas sector … and now the farmers.

Forget layoffs, fire their ugly asses now, and then throw them all in jail under the new terrorism law before trudope changes it to protect all the crooked lawyers and politicians
