Amazing video showcases how today's “safe space” obsessed students shouldn't trample on what they need the most – free speech

A new video from Reason TV slams student activists for their constant disregard for the First Amendment.

In addition to reaffirming what any sensible person already thought, the video also provides a bit of history lesson in case you've been too preoccupied to care about “safe spaces” and “trigger warnings.”

The description of the video says, “a lot of these student activists have the First Amendment in their crosshairs. At Amherst, students demanded the censorship of pro-free speech fliers. At Yale, students demanded the firing of officials who reaffirmed the right to wear offensive Halloween costumes. And at both Missouri and the University of Chicago, demonstrators physically prevented members of the media from talking to activist students. At Missouri, one of these censors was a professor—of journalism.

Student activists say they want their campuses to become safe spaces. But they are conflating two very different kinds of safety. Of course students have the right to physical safety—universities are required prevent violence and illegal harassment on campuses. But too many students think they are also entitled to emotional safety.

Free speech isn’t an obstacle that prevents radical activists from getting what they want, it’s a necessary condition for them to promote their ideas. Students should fight racism and inequality on college campuses. And they'll actually need free speech to do that.”

Reason absolutely nails it.

Are we going to have another Kent State, or Jackson State University?
Something’s gotta give…

What needs to happen, is the white students should post signs saying “White Students Safe Space”, in libraries and study halls. We all know this will infuriate the ignorant bigots who are causing the problems, and they will of course invade this “safe space”. But when they do, it would be just the kind of trigger needed to stop all of this mess, and expose the hypocrisy and stupidity of it.

Free speech dose not include criticism of Islam or Muslims, according to them. God help anyone who dare criticize. All these problems started when the Muslims made their way into Universities.

Muslims are not computable with civilization. That is free speech.

University Student ‘revolutions’ do not end well… China’s cultural revolution… 30 million dead, Iranian islamic revolution.. death-toll on-going, etc….. and unfortunately they are cheap.. only requires a boogie-man and a perverted ideology.

this will end the same way EVERY totalitarian movement ends. Outright censorship enforced with physical intimidation ultimately ending in bloodshed at the hands of the totalitarian oppressors. We are about to go over the cliff into a period of division, destruction and death and it is going to play out right in our own backyards.

As I’ve said before, the world has become one large lunatic asylum.

I wonder if those that want to censure other people’s speech grasp the concept that the same censorship can also be applied to them on other issues. Probably not.
