Andrew Lawton: Consumer-driven environmentalism beats Big Government laws

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

On last night's episode of The Ezra Levant ShowAndrew Lawton of True North News calls in to talk about Catherine McKenna's carbon tax flip flops.

McKenna recently brought up the possibility of a re-elected Trudeau government raising the carbon tax and Conservatives have seized on the opportunity to point out their dishonesty.

But in order for the government to meet the demands of the Paris accord to lower emissions, the tax on carbon would have to be raised even higher — five or six times higher.

John,

To “meet the demands of the Paris accord to lower emissionmeet the demands of the Paris accord to lower emission”

means exactly what it says. how do you meet the demands of reducing emmissions without achieving that specific goal?

If you heavily taxed fuels, yes, people would shift to cheaper sources. Take a look at car sales in Norway, for examples. Tax policy has rendered EVs cheaper than ICE, so people are buying EVs en masse, unless there is a specific reason to buy the more expensive fossil-fuel version.

Yes Andrew….to meet the demands….but demands do not necessarily lead to or achieve the demanded goal. Many other factors can and usually do crop up to upset demands in any situation or proposal and are either ignored or not acknowledged because they do not fit the narrative. If every country complied with the five or six times higher requirements…….rest assured that new requirements. It does not necessarily follow….that it would “work”.
In any case, the “carbon tax” proposed by the Liberals is merely verbal misdirection,as the tax has nothing to with emissions. It is only a new cash cow for a regime that practices gluttony regarding spending tax dollars. It has nothing to do with the climate, environment or whatever term they wish to use.

“…..five or six times higher. So carbon taxes can work then.Thanks.”
You know very well that you are being deliberately misleading,of course.
The five or six times higher only meets the DEMANDS of the Paris Accord. It does not necessarily follow that demands achieve results or the claimed goal."

Literally a quote from Ezra’s article, the last paragraph. “But in order for the government to meet the demands of the Paris accord to lower emissions”, so “work” in this case means at reducing emissions to Paris levels.

In this case, to " to meet the demands of the Paris accord to lower emissions,"

If there’s any ambiguity in the statement, better to ask the original author of the statement, one Ezra Levant.

Alberta,s getting a solar farm near Vulcan. When we need the power most in winter the panels will be covered in snow. The sales pitch is the air conditioning load during the summer. Not much need for AC this summer.

Man Made Global Warming is an unsupportable, unsubstantiated hoax. Before another cent of tax payers dollars is spent fighting this alleged “climate emergency” we need a real debate, not the agenda driven, over the top lectures we have been getting from the socialist environmentalists. One might ask, if the MMGW theory is so ironclad; if the ’science is settled" then why is debate denied? Science is a collection of theories that are routinely debated, examined and revised when needed. But not MMGW? How anti-science is that? Anyone else smell a rat? A multi billion dollar rat?

As you may have noted in your tour of B.C. Duke Of Paducah, the real irony is that about every fourth vehicle on the road in the Interior or on Vancouver Island is a pickup truck… And many of those being driven “pedal to metal” style by self-professed “Greenies”!… Electric vehicle charging stations sit idle except in the “fashionable” neighbourhoods of Vancouver, Victoria or the Gulf Islands…

One museum we were at had charging stations for electric cars which were noticeable by their complete absence.

Spent a week in the BC interior with their $1.35 a litre gas. People still driving as much or more than ever and always at full throttle.
