Scheer is letting Trudeau bring back Canada’s internet “hate speech” law — but we're fighting back!

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

In 2013, Stephen Harper’s Conservatives voted to repeal Section 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Act.

But now the Liberals are looking to bring it back, and Andrew Scheer is letting them.

Section 13 was the censorship provision that made it an offence to hurt someone’s feelings — or actually, even worse, it make it an offence to potentially cause one person to have hard feelings about another person.

Here’s the text that was removed. It was illegal to publish anything:

“...that is likely to expose a person or persons to hatred or contempt.”

Mark Steyn recently warned a Standing Committee against bringing this provision back on the strength of his failed prosecution in three different Canadian jurisdictions under that law.

To my horror, Andrew Scheer's Conservatives haven't lifted a finger against it. The party isn't publicly cheering it on, but they have made a party-wide decision specifically not to champion freedom of speech.

Freedom of speech should be a more important issue for conservatives than taxes, immigration, terrorism or respecting our military. Free speech is more important than any trade deal, or criminal justice. If you don’t have free speech, you can’t talk meaningfully about any of those other issues.

Bringing back Section 13 won't just silence conservatives. It will expose anyone with conservative beliefs to tens of thousands of dollars in fines and legal costs.

When I appeared in front of the non-judge activists at the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal in 2008, they demanded that I pay cash to a radical Muslim offended by my decision to publish the Danish Mohammed cartoons in my Western Standard magazine. And they demanded that I give him two full, unedited pages in my magazine to let him say whatever he wanted!

No normal courts can do that. But Humans Rights Commissions — empowered by Section 13 — don't operate like normal courts.

And Andrew Scheer's Conservatives are passively allowing the Liberals to bring all this back. The same party under Harper that struck this odious law from the books is doing nothing to prevent its revival.

But what you about, reader? What can we do?

I've drafted a petition. Not to the ruling Liberals, but to Andrew Scheer. I know he and his party can't stop Section 13 from coming back on their own, but if he pulls out all the stops just maybe the awful decision to ram censorship through Parliament right before an election could be stopped.

So sign our petition now. You can see it at StopSection13.com. It simply says,

“We call upon Andrew Scheer to stand up for freedom of speech by opposing the revival of section 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Act.”

And I’ll personally deliver it to Andrew Scheer myself.

NEXT: Andrew Lawton of True North Initiative joined me to talk about Liberal Minister for Democratic Institutions Karina Gould, who is openly discussing cracking down on social media websites in order to control content (just in time for the federal election.)

FINALLY: Your messages to me!

maybe politicians should remember what canada is. a FREE country with free expression and values worth fighting for. Maxime seems to get it. piling more laws to silence canadians on everything and anything is not a free country any longer. trudy pass less laws, otherwise canada will become a stalinist country. maybe you and your papa wanted but most canadians do NOT!

Liza Rosie said about Harper….“. He is and always has been a globalist,”
-———————————————————
Do you have a creditable video that says the above? I don’t recall him admitting his Global Nature in his book.

Stephen, may as well bring back Harper as Trudeau (even after 3 .5 years) talks about him all the time, blaming him for anything that has gone wrong.

I’d say the 45% opposed is the real important one. 55% in favour or neutral, support explicitly or implicitly, the status quo. The majority are not opposed – which is interesting, because a year ago the majority definitely were. Trudeau should have put it in a year earlier, but it’s already a fading issue.

They don’t provide regional numbers, but I suspect a lot of that opposition is concentrated in Alberta, where it is meaningless since it’s already mostly blue. BC, Quebec, and three of the four Atlantic provinces have provincial taxes so it’s irrelevant there too. Come to think of it, the only swing provinces under the Federal tax are Ontario and New Brunswick… where if we go based on provincial results, would split NB down the middle and Ontario would give the CPC maybe 40 seats and a total gain of maybe 50 or 60. On this issue you end up back at the same CPC minority that the pollsters have been predicting since it became clear SNC wasn’t a giant-slaying issue.

Oh gee Andrew, the plurality, 45%, of Canadians are opposed to the carbon tax and 65% say it will affect their vote with those against the tax being far more motivated to act.
https://torontosun.com/news/national/two-thirds-of-canadians-say-carbon-tax-will-affect-their-vote-new-poll-reveals
Using your flawed poll based right/left analysis, this clearly places pro-carbon taxes on the far left composing only 28% of the population. Just sayin’.

“Scheer needs to grow a damn backbone. "

Not necessarily, PAUL McCullough. Jellyfish have survived for 500 to 700 million years.

Scheer needs to do his job and oppose Section 13.

STEPHEN HICKEN, Harper did a fine job of not freaking out his base. He was skilled and kept the country on an even keel, but we are here because of his policies. He is and always has been a globalist, not a hair on fire globalist like Trudeau and many western European countries, but a globalist none the less. I do not revere him like I used to.

Truth needs to be heard and Andrew Scheer’s ‘conservatives’ voted to shut down the camera at a committee hearing, strike the record of the falsely branded ‘offensive’ comment made by cpc mp Michael Cooper, and then fired him!
Now to add insult to injury Scheer is not saying a word in defense of our liberty and right to speak our political views and express our opinions freely – he remains silent on section 13.

Will he stand by Canadians and do everything in his power to protect our rights or will he let Trudeau get away with this unscathed? He needs to show his allegiance to Canadians.

Andrew, I give you credit for coming on here and discussing your points of view, (occasionally you present an argument) much as I am amazed why anyone would base their arguments on the rejection of objective truth and natural law. But you can do better than this. Your hatred and contempt is showing.

So, the ban on speech “…that is likely to expose a person or persons to hatred or contempt.”" disproportionately silences conservatives?

Well, at least the right admits they’re the party of hatred and contempt.

Justin Trudeau…sung to him when he was a toddler, by his daddy.

Funny little fellow.

Trying to touch his toes.

Don’t know what he’s doing.

But I think he’s one of those.

“Orwellian” indeed Robert McClelland… At age 31, this young “supposed guru on what people can post on the internet during a federal election” is going to try her best to control Canadian thought between now and October… Any rational Canadian adult should feel they have been slapped in the face, yet again, by the now so predicable Boy Blunder…
commented 2019-06-12 02:28:08 -0400
Karina Gould looks like another fresh faced gender based hire by the Boy Blunder on a par with the likes of Cryin’ Chrys, Myriam Monsef and Climate Barbie. You just have to love the irony of her ministerial portfolio, she is “The Minister of Democratic Institutions”, how Orwellian.
😒

You’re a tough nut Ezra. Canada needs more grit.
Keep fighting for freedom while you still can.
commented 2019-06-12 00:36:45 -0400
Ezra, I will however sign your petition. I do agree that Andrew should be fighting, tooth and nail, to protect free speech. Absolutely imperative.
commented 2019-06-12 00:27:41 -0400
Signed. Section 13 is a work-around the law every thinned skinned leftist will gain to take away your right to speak freely and punish you financially when you speak you mind. If the conservative party doesn’t stand up to it we have lost political representation except for the Peoples Party. I’d rather not have to go back to square one with Max and risk splitting the vote but I will if Sheer is going to abandon our most basic values.
Sheer needs to wake up.

Ezra. We want to get rid of Trudeau. That is job one. I know you don’t like Andrew, fair enough. Although much of that has to do with the fact that he has shut the Rebel out Conservative conventions and other ballyhoos. I also know that as the leader of the Conservative Party, Andrew has to be held to account; but let him get his majority first. If you keep cutting him off at the knees, then we may be stuck with Trudeau for another term. If so, hello UN Global Migration Compact and an endless migration of illegals who Trudeau has already given the right to vote. Who do you imagine they will vote for? If the latter scenario is what you support, well then good work Ezra.

The good news, beginning of June survey in Quebec shows the conservatives in front of the Libs for the 1st time. Bad news is what difference will it make if Andrew Scheer wins? People are now kept in the dark and have no idea of Section 13 or the ban on internet. However, many will know that a judge today has condemned a construction worker to 30 days in jail for 2 videos he made on Youtube, bashing the muslims. And the media condemned his behaviour when he posed shamelessly for a photo with his friends laughing in front of the court after his judgment. They can remove free speech but many Canadians are far from stupid.

COIN JUST DROPPED!!!!…Andrew Scheer has fallen into the same rut as others who must work in a venue of “speach codes”….he was speaker of the House…and now….he sees Canada as the house writ large….in which the role of prime minister is that of Speaker of the House ….writ large…

Let go of the notion that things have to make sense in the scope of what makes sense to YOU….
commented 2019-06-11 22:46:33 -0400
Ezra….last time around it was only….“he who’s name must not be uttered”…who ever made complaints under it’s provisions…..is he …excuse me…zhe….still waiting in the wings to have at you?….In the last 319 action I am told it was (HWNMNBU)…..(see parenthesis above for definition of acronym)…and Warren Kinsella who did the formal paperwork version of the witch doctor’s pointed bone…

I’m just wondering WHO is waiting to act on this….it’s certainly NONE OF THE GOVERNMENT’S FUCKING BUSINESS!!

- Scheer needs to grow a damn backbone. That’s really all I can say at this point. If he isn’t going to fight he needs to step down.

- The Liberals are desperate & corrupt. The worse things get, the more tyrannical they get … which makes things even worse – viscous cycle.

It would appear that Canada has gone the same way as the European Countries. Politicians are no longer sticking to the rules because many of them are flying false flags and are not what they seem to be. In the UK the majority of the members of parliament, regardless of what party they belong to, are NWO Globalists. I am beginning to suspect that Scheer is also a member of this club and is in fact quite satisfied with Trudeau’s traitorous ways.

I have to disagree with Ezra a bit on this but in my opinion I think that respecting our Military is more important than freedom of speech, even if you are not free to talk about it…You perhaps, will have to have lived in a war zone to understand that.
commented 2019-06-11 22:28:54 -0400
Signed. …and if this keeps up, my vote and all those that I can influence will shift from CPC to PPC this fall. I don’t need “totalitarian light”, I need a normal country.

Dan Mancuso…the members of MGTOW went through this longer than Ezra has been a player in the game…when the crackdown occurs you can either surrender to the GESTAPO style roundup or you can learn to be a partizan insurgent…

To all the trolls and chaparones…the socialist Utopia you long for awaits you at the nursing home….BTW socialism is no longer “cradle to the grave” …it’s now abortion to assisted suicide and it wouldn’t surprise me if eugenics made a comeback…budgets are getting tighter…

And to the many socialists who have thought that universal health care was their ace of hearts…Mick Jager chose treatment for his by-pass surgery in New York out of his own (deep mind you) pocket rather than take advantage of getting it free in the UK…on a two year waiting list….if you don’t get it take the time to learn what the critics have been trying to tell you.

I signed Ezra’s Free Speech petition going to Scheer in an instant.
What about a critical petition to :
1. The Can. Civil-Liberties Association.
2. Can. Association of Journalists.
3.Can. Journalists for freedom of expression.
Inform them that they should start doing their jobs.

Our politicians are fascists with a capitol F. This has been in the works for some time by these conniving bottom feeders. Who thought we would ever see full blown fascism in our sitting government in Canada? What is happening is truly surreal.
