Scheer is letting Trudeau bring back Canada’s internet “hate speech” law — but we're fighting back!

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

In 2013, Stephen Harper’s Conservatives voted to repeal Section 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Act.

But now the Liberals are looking to bring it back, and Andrew Scheer is letting them.

Section 13 was the censorship provision that made it an offence to hurt someone’s feelings — or actually, even worse, it make it an offence to potentially cause one person to have hard feelings about another person.

Here’s the text that was removed. It was illegal to publish anything:

“...that is likely to expose a person or persons to hatred or contempt.”

Mark Steyn recently warned a Standing Committee against bringing this provision back on the strength of his failed prosecution in three different Canadian jurisdictions under that law.

To my horror, Andrew Scheer's Conservatives haven't lifted a finger against it. The party isn't publicly cheering it on, but they have made a party-wide decision specifically not to champion freedom of speech.

Freedom of speech should be a more important issue for conservatives than taxes, immigration, terrorism or respecting our military. Free speech is more important than any trade deal, or criminal justice. If you don’t have free speech, you can’t talk meaningfully about any of those other issues.

Bringing back Section 13 won't just silence conservatives. It will expose anyone with conservative beliefs to tens of thousands of dollars in fines and legal costs.

When I appeared in front of the non-judge activists at the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal in 2008, they demanded that I pay cash to a radical Muslim offended by my decision to publish the Danish Mohammed cartoons in my Western Standard magazine. And they demanded that I give him two full, unedited pages in my magazine to let him say whatever he wanted!

No normal courts can do that. But Humans Rights Commissions — empowered by Section 13 — don't operate like normal courts.

And Andrew Scheer's Conservatives are passively allowing the Liberals to bring all this back. The same party under Harper that struck this odious law from the books is doing nothing to prevent its revival.

But what you about, reader? What can we do?

I've drafted a petition. Not to the ruling Liberals, but to Andrew Scheer. I know he and his party can't stop Section 13 from coming back on their own, but if he pulls out all the stops just maybe the awful decision to ram censorship through Parliament right before an election could be stopped.

So sign our petition now. You can see it at StopSection13.com. It simply says,

“We call upon Andrew Scheer to stand up for freedom of speech by opposing the revival of section 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Act.”

And I’ll personally deliver it to Andrew Scheer myself.

NEXT: Andrew Lawton of True North Initiative joined me to talk about Liberal Minister for Democratic Institutions Karina Gould, who is openly discussing cracking down on social media websites in order to control content (just in time for the federal election.)

At 22:30 the smiley-she-fascist sounds just like Blair as he keeps squawkin’ about “looking at all the different possibilities” when asked about confiscating our guns…for our own good!
Shutting down our free speech rights, and the means to speak, and gun confiscation, and ALL the players involved…c’mon, am I the only one who sees that big fat fascist elephant in the room…taking over?

I guess when they make their move and shut down THEREBEL…again, there will still be the email contacts from you guys to keep us in the loop. Anything else in the works?
The next four or five months should be interesting times to live in…‘May you live in interesting times.’ is an ancient Chinese curse…

I’m highly disappointed with Andrew Scheer. While I can, I’ll tell all my Canadian friends to sign the StopSection13.com petition. We need to show Mr. Rogers that it isn’t a wonderful day in our neighbourhood. We don’t like tyrants like Trudeau and he doesn’t like us.

Perhaps Mr. Scheer is a red Tory ?

Zuzanna I couldn’t agree more!

The Green Party will get in as a minority. Because Scheer is screwing up.
I am so outraged by what he did to Michael Cooper. If Cooper was smart, he’d give Scheer the finger and go to the PPC.
(I absolutely love Bernier, but I just wish he was oh so much more aggressive instead of being a fair, diplomatic and honest guy. PowerPlay needs a Donald Trump to put these other amateurs in their place, like that obnoxious Lisa Raitt.)

This Karina Gould was interviewed on Context and the whole show was so in favour of shutting down hate sites. Of course their coverage was completely twisted with propaganda and void of real facts.
But people watch these programs and believe them because this particular program is a faith based (Protestant) program.

Going to sign right now. I am outraged!!!

Signed.. I like Matt Salenius’ suggestion about seeing President Trump.. Sh!t… Scheer!.. get on the phone at least via conference call. The climate change bubble heads should be okay with the phone call.. But probably they will throw a tantrum because you’re calling Trump period.. F@c em!! They are going to kick and scream no matter what you do… if it’s in the best interest of Patriotic Canadians! Are you going to take a stand?

If you want free society, you need to take liberal women, (and some beta/fake feminist men) out of politics.

Karen is absolutely right.

I think Scheer is going to find that the party base will have better things to do besides voting in October. And have much better things to spend money on than the CPC election war chest. The base is not looking for a fourth unprincipled left wing party.

HERE HERE…I for one stopped….and joined the PPC….better to loose with principle than just let the CBC become your chaparone.

If the petition is big enough Scheer might ……start doing his job. I have my doubts, but of course I signed. Somebody has got to do something.

Where’s that Cathy R that thinks Andrew Scheer and the conservatives are doing such a good job of holding Trudeau to account-if you believe that, you probably also think climate change is real-hahaha.

On the bright side, if we’re completely denied to criticize, nobody will be voted into gov’t.

Justin Trudeau: A wily elite aiming for One Wold & NWO
Andrew Scheer: A globalist stooge scrambling to join the elite club
Jagmeet/Dippers: Terrorist loving communists of the worst kind, will implement NWO the first day in office.
May/Greenies: Hippies on steroids. The creators of NWO theory.

Nothing more is needed to say about our all major political parties

I am disappointed so far in Andrew Scheer ,
like Mr. Rogers he tries to be “nice to everyone”
and it will not succeed
many politicians have tried to walk on both sides
of the railroad track simultaneously,
and all have tripped and fallen eventually
Andrew Scheer…….!!!!!!
…please…. get with it while you still can
read the temper of this nation,,
read the feedback here and elsewhere,
change your platform, I want to support you,,
take a lesson from Trump,
go see him if you can,,
and learn the reality,,
