Australians are often encouraged to feel guilty about their national pride. Middle class people of the inner city are generally embarrassed about our Western heritage, and any Australian who doesn’t express shame about our history of British colonization is basically guilty of a hate crime.
But nationalism is not racist. Nationalism is the antidote to racism.
Watch as I explain why, contrary to conventional thinking on the issue, this is the case.
The fact is, people are inherently tribal, and tribalism is deeply embedded into human nature.
Like it or not, the innate psychology of tribalism doesn’t just go away when nationalism is discouraged. People still remain tribal, but they just express it in different ways.
Those who discourage nationalism are often very naive when it comes to human nature. They don’t understand the power of tribalism and think that diversity training programs actually work, when they don’t.
The idea that if you dissolve nationalism people all over the world will just be friends and hold hands is an idea so ridiculous it borders on delusion.
Nationalism is not racist. It is the antidote to racism.
