Are you an energy pig? Power companies “energy shame” customers instead of government

David MenziesMission Specialist

According to my Power Stream Power Report Card, I’m a loser. Out of 100 households in the area, mine is ranked #84 and the higher the number, the more of an energy pig you are.

Welcome to Ontario, a province where the utilities are actually shaming their customers to do better.

Maybe I am a loser but still, I’m mystified by my poor ranking.

Reviewing all of the measures we’ve taken to reduce our energy consumption, I honestly don’t know what my family could have done differently to conserve more energy so I called them to ask, what gives?

First I’m gouged and then I’m shamed? Is that any way to treat a customer?

Even worse, when I asked if the power companies would also grade the Wynne Liberals on how they’ve handled the energy file, I received a “no comment”.

Yeah, because we wouldn’t want to offend the knobs at Queen’s Park who are responsible for the energy mess we’re in. That would be impolite.

Better to take it out on paying customers who are getting crucified by energy costs no matter how much they try to conserve.

But then again, what do I know? I’m a loser.

You guys make a good point. Ontario is almost like socialist Romania. Wynne is trying to freeze us to death and impoverish us with high taxes. She needs a good wake up call like the video.

From the most expensive electricity in North America.

The only thing our Government does is allow Canadians to be raped by the greedy power companies and corporate giants, for their after office paydays.

Nobody in Canada should be paying for power at all, if we ever did have a trustworthy Government in Canada we wouldn’t know it if we tripped over them, that is how rare it would.

With our population size and the high individual tax we pay on everything we earn and everything we buy, power should be covered by those taxes.

I would take great pride in that report card, because it means Mr. Menzies is doing something the governments are not doing…supporting the energy sector and, more importantly, the workers in that sector. Congratulations Mr. Menzies for helping to retain some jobs.

David, one assumes the rate would also depend on the number of people in a household.

I’m up to all hours of the night. I run a refrigerator and a freezer. I have outdoor electrical security lighting. Large flatscreen TVs, and in summer I have the AC on all day. My usual electricity bill for 60 days is about $100 to $110. This is in Quebec.

In Ontario – where I am moving to – a friend pays about four times what I pay for the same period and consumes less than half of my use..

On the one hand we are told to conserve and reduce use, and the “extra” power is sold to the US. But when we do conserve and reduce the rates go up because profits are down. We are told to reduce because the power grid is near capacity, yet the governments want us to use electric cars that plug in every day and night. Won’t they pull power from the grid?

Its a “who cares about the citizens – they are bank accounts to suck dry” world. No matter what we do, or try to do, we are the ones who get screwed.

Wynne wants windmills, put one in her back yard and see how she likes it. Take away her government pension and see how fast she will complain about the high cost of power and the carbon tax.

It’s always easier to blame the victims of the government, than to risk their spot at the taxpayers trough.

I wonder how the Ontario soviet party cabinet (AKS Wynne govt.) stacks up – wil they run their thermostats below room temp this winter? Will they engage in the same energy poverty they have foisted on fixed income single moms, seniors and disabled by spend 30%- 40% on energy to eat and stay warm?

Nawww didn’t think so. Every communist regime ends up with an effete isolated political aristocracy.
