As Justin Trudeau's Liberals seek to restore relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, a new report is calling them the world's leader in executing children.
According to a report by Amnesty International, at least 73 minors inside Iran were executed over the past ten years.
The report goes on to say that at least 160 juvenile offenders are currently on death row, but the true numbers are probably much higher because information about the use of the death penalty in Iran is often shrouded in secrecy.

Deputy director of Amnesty International’s Middle East and North Africa Program, Said Boumedouha, wrote, “This report sheds light on Iran’s shameful disregard for the rights of children. Iran is one of the few countries that continues to execute juvenile offenders in blatant violation of the absolute legal prohibition on the use of the death penalty against people under the age of 18 years at the time of the crime.”
“Despite some juvenile justice reforms, Iran continues to lag behind the rest of the world, maintaining laws that permit girls as young as nine and boys as young as 15 to be sentenced to death.”
Iran took a pledge two decades ago when it ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).
Therefore, Iran is legally obliged to treat everyone under the age of 18 as a child and ensure that they are never subject to the death penalty nor to life imprisonment without possibility of release.
Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister Stéphane Dion defended lifting sanctions on Iran imposed by the former Conservative government.
“The approach of the former government was ideological and irrational,” Dion said. “When you have a disagreement with a regime you don’t pull out, you work harder.”
Iran is a known state-sponsor of terror.
Opposition critic Tony Clement said the Conservatives oppose these moves due to Iran’s track record.
“The facts are that Iran is a state sponsor of terror,” Clement said outside the House of Commons. “It continues as state policy to deny the very existence of the state of Israel.”
This move by the Liberal government continues its move to cozy up to Islamic countries that practice Sharia law. Back in December, Justin Trudeau gave Indonesia $14.25 million for 'infrastructure funding'. Less than a month later, Indonesia publicly caned a woman for being alone with a man she was not married to.
