Auditor General to investigate "secret payments" between Liberal Party and teachers' unions

Brian LilleyArchive

After revelations that more than $3.7 million had been paid to teacher's unions to cover the cost of their contract negotiations, Ontario’s auditor general has been asked to investigate.

Bonnie Lysyk will look into secret payments between the province’s Liberal government and the teacher's unions that have been active donors and supporters of the Ontario Liberal government.

Lysyk will want to know who was paid for what, but in addition to the secret payments for the cost of contract negotiations, there's also the matter of money set aside to help struggling students being used instead to provide raises for teachers. Will Lysyk and her office look into that too?

Despite finding egregious examples of Liberal waste and mismanagement in the past, so far nothing has stuck since the party always claims nothing inappropriate happened and at that simple declaration, most of the media pack up and leave.

It appears what we have here is a very cozy relationship between the Liberal Party and teachers' unions with taxpayers, whether knowingly or not, paying the price for labour peace and Liberal re-election.

It’s long past time to take union money out of politics, to stop the special treatment given to unions that allows them to force workers to hand over money to be spent on politics. The corruption on display between the Ontario Liberals and the teachers unions they negotiate with is proof of that.

Hyacinth said, "Trudeau bought the CBC with the promise of more funding than they currently receive. "

Yes, I understand what you mean and that is true, but I actually think that he probably did not need to do that anyway as I think that would have endorsed him like the mindless lemmings that they with or without that $150 million incentive, but I guess we will never know for sure.

Trudeau bought the CBC with the promise of more funding than they currently receive. If I remember correctly CBC already receives $1.1 billion in taxpayer monies. The smaller media outlets rely on CBC for crumbs, its a chain reaction. So yes, Paul Deuler is correct.

Paul Deuler said, "Trudeau bought off the media, "

I don’t think Trudeau bought off the media, I think they willingly follow him like sick little lemming.

…and now begins the smoke and mirrors of the Ontario government trying to cover its ass. All of this should have been looked at way before the election.

PAUL DEULER commented 3 hours ago – financial default changes everything.

meh. voters don’t care. Trudeau bought off the media, Wynne bought off the OPP/Teachers. Nothing changes. This is nothing compared to gas plants. The province will never elect a politician who will be responsible with taxpayers money.

The fact that we know they are going to do whatever they want and get away with it is very sad! When the auditor general told the government that their smart meters were a waste and did not work and were costing the tax payer money the liberals dismissed these claims like she was unqualified and did not know what she was talking about. I expect more of the same. Real facts will come from the investigation and nothing will come from it because all the socialists have to say is “I dont believe it” and that majically means it isn’t true.

Like it matters. Orville Redenbacher (wynne) is going to steal all she wants and there isn’t a police force in the country that will do a thing about it.

Welcome to the new Canada starring Boy Trudeau and all his little socialist provincial thieves.

And get ready for the tax hikes to pay for Orville Redenbacher’s stolen goods. Wonderful place this Canada.

Why bother?

There are far more important items on the “winnie breaks the law list”

The OPP are in her pocket

Auditor general will not find anything wrong in event the auditor general is moved to the men’s washroom in the basement

It is all smoke and mirrors

Do not blame me – I never voted for liberal scum

She could find wrongdoing all over the shop relating to this premier and her old boss but when it actually comes to prosecuting for the wrongdoing these teflon politicians will never see the inside of a court room never mind the booking office of a police station Liz Sandals should be investigated by the police after this.

In Canada, the poppy is the official symbol of remembrance worn during the two weeks before 11 November, having been adopted in 1921. The Royal Canadian Legion, which has trademarked the image,5 suggests that poppies be worn on the left lapel, or as near the heart as possible.6

If someone says Liberal to me, by word association alone, I think Corruption. Think about all the corruption that has been associated with Liberals, Provincial and Federal, over the years, it boggles the mind. Now days, they get up to their dirty tricks and think nothing of it, they do it quite openly and when they are asked about it in parliament, they lie. Every body knows they are lying but no one seems to care. There is not a lot that the Conservatives can do about it, the Liberal Gang is to large.
I see dark days and Sharia Law ahead. The likes of Wynne and Trudeau will see to that.

The whole freaking bunch, nothing but liars, cheaters, corrupt & the brain dead voters reelect them with a majority. They get away with everything & no charges are ever laid because the OPP are in bed with them. Shame on them. Reminds me of Hilary & the press also in bed with her & nothing will happen there either. So unfair for the conscientious voter who have to live with this insanity.

Ok, does anyone seriously think that ANY investigation involving Wynne and her cabinet would ACTUALLY result in charges?
“The Ontario Provincial Police’s endorsement of the Liberals continues to hang over both organizations’ heads. You may recall that the endorsement came at a time when the police had open investigations into potential Liberal crimes (cancelling gas plants at a massive $1.1 billion public cost for partisan gain and deleting records about cancelling those gas plants).”
“The Liberals have rampantly abused the parliamentary process. Kathleen Wynne sued two Conservatives for questioning her role in the gas plants scandal. Wynne is also happy to bribe an election candidate with government positions to step aside so her preferred candidate could run and ultimately win in Sudbury (another current OPP investigation). Just last week, when NDP Leader Andrea Horwath asked why the Premier wasn’t showing up to Question Period, she was thrown out of the House by the Liberal Speaker. Yes, really; you can do all of these things in McGuinty-Wynne Ontario when you have a majority government and not a care for what anyone else thinks or says.”
“What’s happening now, and what happens next? The police are still investigating. They have so far obtained several court orders to obtain computer hard drives, Mr. Livingston’s BlackBerry and records from the legislature building.

No charges have been laid.

As for the legislative committee that started the investigation, it’s under new management. After the Liberals won a majority government in 2014, they took most of the seats and promptly voted to end the committee’s investigation and write a report. It is due out some time in the spring of 2015.”
