A 63-year-old homeless man named David Thompson has just embarked upon a cycling trip across Canada to “raise awareness.”
You'd think the priority would be to get a job, but Mr. Thompson has chosen cycling for “awareness” as his calling.
There was a time when “raising awareness” meant fundraising and getting things done. Dr. Jonas Salk didn't bicycle to draw attention to polio, he created a vaccine to eradicate it. But our homeless cycling friend isn't doing any of that. In fact, the press coverage seems to have more to do with Thompson himself than any of the issues he's brought up.
