We first saw the bigotry of Black Lives Matter in Toronto where activists demanded that the police float be removed from the the Pride parade.
The same demand has been made in St. John’s Newfoundland where police have been told they can be part of Pride but not in uniform and now the demand has come to Ottawa.
While Capital Pride have not said whether they’ll give in yet, more and more are pushing back against BLM activists since the whole idea of pride is to be inclusive and allow people to be themselves.
I’ve never been to Pride but I can see the inconsistency here. There used to be an acrimonious relationship between law enforcement and the LGBT community which has since been repaired so this seems counterproductive.
If you claim to be against bigotry, why is it okay to display bigotry towards police?
It’s only radical activists like those in Black Lives Matter who see the police as an “oppressive institution”
Those in “marginalized” communities who understand that alienating the police will only undermine their own safety, should push back against this nonsense.
