Bob Rae’s crude anti-Harper gesture is the true face of Liberals’ “sunny ways”

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

While the Conservatives had their big convention in Vancouver, the Liberals held theirs in Winnipeg. Justin Trudeau bashed Stephen Harper a bit, but also gave a perfunctory thank you to Harper for more than a decade of public service.

So, out of a whole weekend of bashing Harper as evil, un-Canadian, etc., Trudeau mugged for the cameras for less than 30 seconds with a smile, to show that he’s really all about the "sunny ways."

But Bob Rae, the former NDP premier of Ontario, former interim federal Liberal leader, couldn’t even go along with the fake smiles for 30 seconds. He literally made a gagging gesture as Trudeau said a handful of kind words about Harper.

The Liberals claim to believe in "sunny ways" — a new tone in how to do politics.

No they don’t. They’re vicious, they’re brutal. In ways Conservatives would never dream of being, and would never get away with.

Scott Discus is a terrible comment system, they allow others to flag you for no reason, the trolls would use that to silence us.

That’s just Rae setting up a date with another member. Maybe they’ll meet in a nice newly renovated office.

Eastern Canada traded the best PM Canada has ever had in Steven Harper for Justin Trudeau the village idiot! WOW.

I agree that our politicians might behave more responsibly if they had the possibility of a recall hanging over their heads. But we’d have to structure it sensibly so that a leader or party can’t be recalled for an overly-trivial reason. Remember, any law would apply to conservatives when they were in power too. If merely making one distasteful comment was enough to get you recalled, we’d soon find our opponents taking advantage of that to turf us out over the slightest “offense”. And we all know how easily they take offense at things!

Personally, I would have loved to recall McGuinty a few weeks into his first term when the media finally got him to admit that all the fee increases were essentially tax increases and that he’d lied through his teeth – deliberately and cynically – from Day One of his campaign. But as soon as he admitted that the fees were taxes, the furor ended and they barely raised another fuss for the rest of his time in office. That’s the real problem: if we can’t count on the media to ferret out bad behaviour and if the opposition parties lack the power – or the will – to keep our politicians honest, then we NEED some way to do the jobs ourselves via recalls. I am really tired of seeing the opposition parties being helpless and the media is so in-the-tank for the Left that we know they will never raise much of a ruckus about anything a leftist does. We need some way to boot out politicians that doesn’t depend on the media or the legislatures but that is still fair to the politicians.

“I think we need some sort of recall legislation.”
August 1993
Pierre Marquis
Political and Social Affairs Division

A. Recall
“The only Canadian attempt to recall a member was made in the province of Alberta in 1937. The member was Premier William Aberhart, who in the 1935 election campaign had pledged that he would introduce recall legislation. In 1936, the Recall Act was passed by the provincial legislature. When, however, Aberhart himself became the first politician to be subjected to recall, the Act was repealed retroactive to the day it had received Royal Assent, and all pending proceedings in connection with the recall of any member were declared null and void. Subsequently, the principle of the recall mechanism disappeared from Alberta and from Canadian politics altogether.”

You mentioned democracy Scott? What democracy? Between corrupt Liberal politicians, public sector unions, and third party interference democracy is more of an illusion than reality. Should Trudeau revamp the electoral system as he and his caucus of clowns are contemplating then what little democracy that does exist will become but a footnote in the pages of Canadian History.

Perhaps Bob Rae would prefer to go skinny dipping with his buddy Rick Mercer.

I agree with a poster below that says that Politicians no longer fear the voter. I think we need some sort of recall legislation. Our Democracy is essentially out of control. Parliament hasn’t created a comment section or a easy input site where we can read bills and make comments. its clear they are out of touch with the times. I would think that at least the senate would want some sober 3rd thought from the internet peanut gallery.

Ezra, Is their a reason you guys use this comment section like you have without a reply below comments. Could you not use the Discus platform for free? I like that commenting because I also get to save my comments and I can even view others comments and it goes across many platforms. National Post stopped using it. I stopped reading them. And If I am honest, I read Rebel a lot less and I Politics far more because of the Discus. I have about 26000 posts. But with the Globe and Mail and your outlet the different posting system pushes me away.

the problem with politicians is that they no longer fear retribution from the masses.
we need to revisit some old traditions like hide and heel bob to a barn door.
bob, your wife must like them pastie, effeminate and with a very small dick. she must be very frustrated with you…

I am sure that Bob Rae was only pointing out where the liberal’s poop from when someone asked “where is all this crap coming from.”

Bob Rae is just demonstrating what a crude POS he is

Jay Kelly what will your excuses for Justins huge deficits be? I said they would happen and they are happening, of course the left was all aghast when Harper had them with lower taxes, but of course they will love them under Justin like good hypocrites. LMAO!

Jay has apparently never heard of class.

Based on the photo — people’s postures, what they are looking at, etc., I doubt it was taken while the tribute to Harper was being given.

But if it was Rae has a classic expression. When I was young we used to say “gag me with a spoon”. Rae looks like someone said “and we recall Harper’s great legacy” and Rae is saying “gag me with a spoon.”

Thanks for the smile, Rebel.

Hey Kenneth, don’t get me confused!
Little Benito?
Is he the same guy as señor El-Bow? Or is he Justin Bin Trudeau? Or Herr Trudeau? Maybe Justin Mohamed Trudeau? Perhaps Sheik Jihad Trudeau?

My head is spinning to the point where I may actually heave my cookies with all the monikers for the Prime Miscreant, our beloved fool on the Hill his high exalted Prince Justin, leader of the Tower of Babbling Idiots.

Please clarify!

Bob Ray, a completely classless pile of bull droppings. But as someone stated earlier, he’s living off the generosity of the taxpayers. These yahoos vote themselves huge wage increases and delegate most of the work they should be doing to poorly paid underlings.
After eight years, they can retire with full pensions for life. The private citizens of this country should be so lucky!

commented 2016-05-31 21:38:18 -0400

The above quote is future ‘hate speech’ when Little Benito gets around to defining it as such.

The above statement is future title of a speech by a future executive assistant to Little Benito.

That would be the same Bob Rae who destroyed the Provine of Ontario ? That is before the McGuinty/Wynne governments have shown that there is something deeper than rock bottom.

Deborah Graupner said: "
Sorry Hyacinth, I didn’t mean to steal your thunder! I’m just glad that others can back up what I say, because we actually witnessed Boob’s destruction of ON. "

As did I. I fled the province before he could complete his devastation. Out of 30 odd homes on the street I lived on, fully 20 were unemployed and facing eviction. Quite the legacy!
