BREAKING: Life in prison for VIA Rail terror plotters

Rebel Staff

They were convicted in March, and today, would-be terrorists Raed Jaser and Chiheb Esseghaier learned their fate in a Toronto court room.

In March the pair were found guilty of conspiring to commit murder for the benefit of, at the direction of or in association with, a terrorist group.

Esseghaier was found guilty of all charges, while Jaser was convicted of all but one charge.

Today, reports, both were sentenced to life in prison, which was what the Crown had asked for.

The most important evidence in the case was 25 hours of secretly recorded conversations between the two men and an undercover FBI agent. The agent posed as a wealthy Egyptian-American real estate developer whose views had supposedly become more hard line in recent years and who was a willing accomplice in the conspiracy.

The court heard conversations in which Jaser and Esseghaier discussed their ideologies, the plot to derail a Via Rail train travelling between New York and Toronto and other ideas for potential attacks.

Jurors were also shown aerial surveillance of the two accused and the undercover officer scouting a railway bridge in September 2012 in broad daylight as several trains passed by only metres away.

Paul Taalman – I agree, give them what they dish out!

Okay, now part 2 starts where these guys start making demands for Halal foods, prayer time, IED making instructions etc. We should be doing to them what a Saudi Arabian court would do if a Westerner was caught drinking booze….they’d have nothing left to think with after that….

I propose we get tough on religiously motivated hate attacks and plans. Lefty twats did that on militant catholics who opposed abortion but they are wimps in the face of the islamist agenda. What a bunch of pussies. I don’t want any left wing party in charge of this great nation. They do nothing but capitulate to the unreasonable religion of perpetual victimhood while decrying all those who reasonably oppose it. That is why I have never been a left wing idiot like Terry or that other one that comes here. All the bullshit that they spout about Harper is as made up as the deep knowledge and realism of Justin the Twat.
If Harper loses and a dip-shit is put in charge I’d rather it be that May woman. Can’t believe I said that really but it’s true.

“Those who say there have been no threats by Islamic terrorists towards or in this country, are blind fools.”
Boy, they sure are. Who’s saying that?
commented 2015-09-25 12:06:59 -0400
Those who say there have been no threats by Islamic terrorists towards or in this country, are blind fools. Interesting that those same fools happen to be left wing political types. The same people who support Hamas, defend Omar Khadr, and condemn Israel fro defending itself.

“Terry Ruden why do lefties like you say there have been no threats to Canada when this is one very real one? "
Read what I actually say before commenting on it, please.

Prison is surely the best place for those guys. Don’t drop the soap.

CBC must be in tears over this, these brave souls were only forced to do this by our evil Harper government and the awful freedoms we enjoy, and the greed of others, not CBC or its stars but others who actually earn their money of course. LMAO.
I can just see all the left wing hypocrites sweating bullets if Khadr was a passenger on a flight they were on.
commented 2015-09-24 17:26:39 -0400
We should all start a fund to buy Omar Khadr tickets to every liberal and NDP event and buy him a shiny new backpack to wear to them.
commented 2015-09-24 17:25:37 -0400
Terry Ruden why do lefties like you say there have been no threats to Canada when this is one very real one? Of course reality is not the lefts strong point of course
commented 2015-09-24 17:24:09 -0400
Terry Ruden whu no CBC coverage of the handicap being denied a place to live due to Muslim demands? oh yeah you already put that story in the didnt happen part of your small brain
commented 2015-09-24 17:23:17 -0400
Terry Ruden you mean like the BS about ROb Fords 911 call, or the BS about our troops, or all their coverage of the Levin trial(LMAO) ignoring the march for life numbers while inflating the occupy numbers. no news on the NDP lie, CBC is a joke
commented 2015-09-24 06:42:13 -0400
Atoken: It may have escaped your notice that what actual “journalism” is included in this story is, in fact, a cut and paste from- oh, my, look at that – the CBC! It seems even the Rebel knows where to turn when they’re looking for actual news coverage.
commented 2015-09-23 23:51:51 -0400
Good – now is there a way to make them actually break big rocks into small one, refuse them any and all access to a computer and email?

Perhaps lock them on dark solitary forever?

They will live well at tax payer expense.
commented 2015-09-23 22:09:32 -0400
Now, will they put put in with the general population of inmates at a max security institution?
commented 2015-09-23 21:52:23 -0400
Robert said, “This is the best we can expect in ‘hug a thug Canada’.”

Yes, unfortunately that is true.

Harper is trying to reverse some of that “hug-a-thug” ideology by passing tough-on-crime legislation, but the leftist judges just seem to ignore those laws.

It is not legal for them to do so, but that does not seem to stop them from ignoring the laws passed by the Conservatives.

What can we do when the many in the judiciary branch of the government break the law by not upholding the law they swore to uphold?
commented 2015-09-23 20:50:03 -0400
Fitting punishment. They killed no one but judge was convinced they wanted to, now hopefully they’ll spend the rest of their lives in prison where they can harm no one. This is the best we can expect in ‘hug a thug Canada’.

I’ll bet this decision upsets CBC.
Peter, “I would not be surprised if Omar is supported by some on the left in our country as well.” I think a lot of us would not be surprised.
commented 2015-09-23 19:55:26 -0400
What Glenn said. But, hey, there are no muslim terrorists in Canada, nor have there been any acts of muslim terrorism in our country. Ever. Just ask anyone posting on any CBC story, or the two predictable trolls we have here on this site.

I don’t know why anybody celebrates the incarceration of a hadj…..they are permitted to prostelytise and recruit while in prison….and the pattern has always been in other places…that once a certain number are accumulated in custody….a school bus or some such thing gets hostage taken to demand a release of these “political prisoners”.

How long before we see the error of “catch and release” .

The ones that die in the initial encounter…..don’t even get mentioned in the news.
commented 2015-09-23 19:12:32 -0400
All three should be deported along with Omar’s lawyer. They have cost taxpayers enough already.
commented 2015-09-23 19:12:27 -0400
Watch this go to a court of appeal or the SCOC where the lefty judiciary will rule that WE are violating their religious beliefs by wanting to kill infidels!
commented 2015-09-23 18:35:08 -0400
Joan, I hope you are right, but we have been seeing a wave of judicial politically motivated decisions that swing far left, and it seems the far left love Omar. Just take a look at the Edmonton judge that ordered to take off all of his tracking, both electronic and other.
commented 2015-09-23 18:15:36 -0400
Peter, I am not sure Canadians can stand another Mayer Arar type of lawsuit. I really hope no court is stupid enough to not recognize Khadr as a self-confessed and manipulative convicted criminal.
commented 2015-09-23 17:42:22 -0400
Joan, I would not be surprised if Omar is supported by some on the left in our country as well.

And soon he will have all the support he wants when he sues the government for millions and the judge presiding happily rules in Omar’s favor offering the most he possibly can.
commented 2015-09-23 16:58:55 -0400
So given life does not mean life in our prison system, how long before these misfits are out?

Khadr is a different kettle of fish. He’s well connected, well supported, well funded by anti-western and terrorist organizations world-wide. A far greater risk to the integrity of western democracies.
commented 2015-09-23 16:50:26 -0400
Guy, Guantanamo will soon be a prison for Cuban political prisoners, if Obama has his way, and he likely will.
commented 2015-09-23 16:47:17 -0400
Sure they’ll reply, Peter. But as you say, just don’t expect an honest reply.
commented 2015-09-23 16:26:05 -0400
On the CBC it looks like the Reporter seemed to emote that the one terrorist should have been found not guilty by reason of insanity … should a violently insane person (like all violent extremists) be jailed? In my personal opinion they should be kept in the highest maximum security prison possible … is Guantanamo available for rent yet?
commented 2015-09-23 14:55:02 -0400
Kenneth, I doubt either one of them will reply to my question. Neither one wants to acknowledge that theRebel is both commentary and news. Both Terry and Jimmy are dishonest.
