Apparently Islamophobia has reached a fever pitch in the U.K., all because of Brexit.
According to a Sky News article, the evidence is that some Muslim players have been catcalled from the stands.
Can you imagine? Trash-talking and ball-busting at a British soccer game?
Troy Townsend, an education officer with Kick It Out, an organization that monitors racism in soccer, told Sky News:
“I was always worried about Brexit and the outcome of that and I think what we've found now is people want to take ownership a lot more.”
But, why blame Brexit for Islamophobic comments at soccer games? Surely there are other factors like climate change, or Donald Trump’s election, or the Atlanta Falcons losing to the Patriots in the Super Bowl?
The nub of the story is found near the bottom where we’re told that faith-related insults make up 2% of the nasty chitchat, meaning that 98% of bad language pertains to other subject matters.
So, why the crusade against Islamaphobic remarks, especially since organized soccer is a sport that officially embraces anti-Semitism?
I guess if we can somehow blame Brexit for this alleged spike in intolerance, then that’s a lefty double play for the ages!
